POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Coordinator will support the development and delivery of communications content for communications and digital media (web sites, social media, graphics, video, intranet, etc.
while ensuring alignment with Oshawa Power’s communications / marketing strategies and brand standards.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Coordinates production of material for public awareness campaigns (e.g., brochures, posters, advertisements). Takes photographs and videos when needed;
- Assists management with the development of work back schedules as required;
- Supports internal communications and engagement maintaining internal tools (SharePoint) and partnering with People and Culture for organizational development events and social committee and activities;
- Obtains content, writes text, prepares mock layouts, and coordinates graphic and print completion;
- Completes purchase orders for management authorization for design work and print production;
- Participates in and assists to organize events and activities (e.g., trade shows, community events). Coordinates development and production of related promotional materials;
- Connects with businesses and community organizations regarding opportunities for support;
- Maintains media and stakeholder contact lists;
- Provides back up support to the Corporate Communications Specialist;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in Communications or Public Relations;
- Minimum of 2 years working experience in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field;
- Quick learner to understand the corporate environment and industry;
- Knowledge of copy writing, digital and print communications, website design, online and email marketing, and graphic design principles;
- Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, communication and graphics standards, related legislation (e.
- g., accessibility, privacy), and Canadian Press Standards;
- Ability to write effectively in plain language for print, web, video and e-newsletters;
- Analytical and organizational skills to edit and proofread own and others’ work, assess and respond appropriately to inquiries (referring issues to other staff and management as appropriate);
- Communication skills to work with and facilitate communications messaging with program partners and other staff, and participate as an effective team member;
- Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office, desktop publishing software, social media / web-based communication tools, and website management software (e.
g., WordPress, Canva, iMovie, Buffer, Adobe premiere Pro).
