Data Engineer

On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Data Engineer to design and implement a standardized database for ingesting and storing water quality analysis results. The role will focus on developing a fully functional Power BI dashboard with interactive features, role‑based access, and exportable views, supporting both internal reporting and potential public‑facing visualisations. The engineer will also explore future integration with ArcGIS Web Maps for spatial analysis and advanced reporting. Deliverables include database schema design, solution documentation, dashboard development and testing, user training, and recommendations for GIS‑based enhancements.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a database structure suitable for standardized ingestion and storage of water quality data.
• Develop a fully functional Power BI dashboard, reviewed and tested by the Environment team.
• Ensure the dashboard supports drill‑through and hover‑over interactions, role‑based access for sensitive data, exportable filtered views, and public‑facing visualisation options when applicable.
• Explore future integration with ArcGIS Web Maps for spatial analysis and advanced reporting.
• Provide database schema and implementation plan.
• Produce all related solution design documentation to be accepted by the City of Surrey team during handover.
• Deliver a fully functional Power BI dashboard, tested and approved by the Environment team.
• Provide dashboard reference guide and user documentation.
• Provide training sessions for Environment team staff on dashboard usage and data entry.
• Recommend future reporting enhancements using GIS tools.
