POSITION SUMMARY
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate to lead and conduct a research project relating to the development and recycling of cathode materials for advanced energy density Li-ion batteries. The successful candidate will be part of a research team working with collaborators at McGill and at the sponsor's facilities.
Designs and conducts experiments to synthesize polyanionic cathode materials with specific crystal morphology
Leads electrochemical characterization of the performance of the cells and assembly of cells (half and full) in a glovebox
Develop and conduct new methods of characterization of produced materials in terms of structure, purity, defects, composition, etc.
Provide support to graduate students working on the project in terms of synthesis, characterization, cell assembly and electrochemical analysis
Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students working on the research project, which includes data analysis, preparing reports, manuscripts, and presentations
Writes manuscripts for publication, presentations and progress reports
PhD in Materials Engineering or other related fields
Have at least six (6) years of research experience in the field of battery material development
Publications on related topics are an asset
Expertise with hydrothermal/solvothermal synthesis, calcination/annealing, characterization, cell assembly and electrochemical performance analysis of battery materials is essential.
Knowledge of the crystal chemistry of polyanionic cathode materials is a requirement.
Ability to communicate scientific findings by oral presentation and written reports
Ability to work with a team
