Development & Donor Relations

The Office of Development and Donor Relations (DDR) is a unit within the University's Advancement portfolio, responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of private donations made to UNB.

The UNB Saint John Campus was established in September of 1964 and today offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Arts, Business, Engineering, Health, Nursing, and Sciences.

The campus has a current student enrollment of 2,222 and boasts a proud alumni base of just over 12,000.

Standard Work Hours : Mon - Fri 8 : 15 am - 4 : 30 pm 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions :

This position requires regular travel within the province and occasional travel within North America.

Salary Range : $81,833 - $111,530 per annum

Salary Range comes into effect as of July 1st

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with senior administrative leadership, The Associate Director of Development, Saint John will be responsible for managing a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, and developing strategies to support the full gift cycle from prospect identification, through cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship.

  • Develop and communicate sophisticated and individualized gift concepts for prospective donors, including planned giving options, and major gifts supporting student aid, research, capital projects, and university-community engagement initiatives.
  • Research, write, edit, and / or oversee the preparation of persuasive and accurate solicitations, proposals, case statements, reports, correspondence, and other development-related communication.
  • Act as a key fundraising partner to volunteers and committees; ensure committees and volunteers receive a proper and fulsome orientation, and are coached and supported, and provided all the tools necessary to perform their duties.
  • Schedule and facilitate donor engagement and interactions with faculty, students, and senior leaders of the university.
  • Coordinate short- and long-range strategic planning activities.
  • Work with the Executive Director to set and achieve individual fundraising performance metrics.
  • Plan and conduct programs and activities designed to increase the visibility of the Saint John Campus and the University to internal and external constituencies.
  • Represent the university at a variety of external events and promote philanthropic support of the university whenever possible.
  • Manage a contracted development officer position.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, board members, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively use the University's prospect management database and other institutional resources to achieve the University's Development objectives.
  • Leverage research on identified prospects to create strategies to match prospects' interests to the fundraising priorities.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • A University Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in fundraising, client / business development, sales, or marketing.

Additional Strengths

  • Progressive fundraising experience, including a successful track record securing major gifts.
  • Ability to secure major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives is considered an asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports.
  • Strong database management skills and organizational skills.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
