About the Position
May - August 4-month term
Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development services, the Planning Student provides assistance and support to Planning and Development staff. The student will assist with administrative and operational duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties listed are not meant to provide a description of every job performed, but only those which represent the core functions of the job.
Responding to general planning enquiries via phone, counter and emails.
Conducting research to support policy review.
Working with GIS software to perform cartographic, analytical and administrative tasks.
Researching, investigating, and data collection analysis for planning projects.
Assisting Planning and Development clerical staff with application entry, data conversion and records management.
Assisting with zoning enquiries at the Planning and Development service desk.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
What you need to Succeed...
Enrolled in post-secondary studies in Planning or Environmental Sciences or similar field.
Student membership in OPPI / CIP or CACPT is preferred.
Expertise in a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS and / or ArcGIS Pro is required.
Strong organizational and analytical skills including the ability to multi-task.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong presentation abilities.
The ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
Ability to work during regular business hours on a full-time basis.
Salary and Benefit Information
$21.48 / hour (2026 rate) plus OMERS pension is available
