Position Summary

Facility Technician, Seniors’ Health Centre Environmental Services :

Your goal in this position is to support the long term care home in meeting the Ministry of Health and Long term care standards and adhere to processes that offer the resident a comfortable and safe environment. You will maintain building equipment in good repair and participate in the preventative maintenance program within the home. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and / or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Assist in conducting all fire drills and other emergency code drills
  • Be able to do minor electrical, plumbing, and major mechanical work
  • Trouble shoot and diagnosis of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment
  • Be able to complete minor flooring, wall repair and painting

Qualifications

  • Grade XII diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate in Electrical, HVAC, or Mechanical, from any Community College
  • Minimum 3 years in maintaining building equipment and repairs, must have his own basic hand tools
  • Ability to work independently or as a team
  • Ability to use all related tools and building equipment
  • Some practical experience in mechanical building equipment operations
  • Ability to maintain neat and accurate records
  • Ability to read, write English and follow written instructions
  • Bilingualism in French / English an asset

This is a Part Time Unscheduled position with 8 hours’ shifts, , days, evenings, and night shifts, including weekends, on an as needed basis, and on call in Seniors’ Health Centre, Environmental Services department. We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which includes pay in lieu of benefits, vacation pay and the opportunity to join the Hospital Pension Plan.
