Health and Safety Specialist for government client, Toronto.

Initial Term : ASAP for approximately 4 months, with possibility of additional extension.
Compensation : From $35+ per hour according to experience.
Regular Work Hours : 8 : 30 am to 4 : 30 pm with 45 minute unpaid lunch, Monday to Friday (36.25 hours per week).
Work Location : Hybrid with 1-2 days per week onsite at our client's downtown Toronto location or other GTA locations as needed, and the rest of the week remote-based.
Travel Requirements : Some travel within the GTA.
Position Reports To : HR Operations Manager.
Responsibilities Summary :
To contribute to development, implementation and maintenance of organization health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring health and safety program compliance across multiple Toronto service locations.
- Review and update Health and Safety policies and procedures, including standard operating procedures, and policies and training to mitigate risk, optimize worker’s health and safety and foster a positive occupational health and safety culture.
- Prepare application to the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development to establish multi-workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
- Review and revise JHSC Terms of Reference.
- In cooperation with JHSC, review standards and procedures for Workplace Occupational Health and Safety Bulletin Boards and coordinate changes and updates across all workplaces.
- Communicate, engage and influence decision-makers and workers to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations, and provide training to employers, employees and the general public on issues of workplace safety as required.
- Participate in workplace inspections, audits and investigations into safety concerns as required.
- Provide health and safety recommendations, or initiate enforcement procedures as required.
- Additional health and safety program responsibilities as required.
Qualifications :
Education : Post secondary degree or diploma in occupational health and safety or similar discipline.
Professional Credentials : CRSP Certification an asset.
Preferred Work Experience : At least 2+ years of experience in development, implementation and maintenance of a corporate health and safety program.
Preferred Sector Experience : Facilities or property management sector experience preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements :
- Proficiency in standard MSOffice applications.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including advanced level business writing skills, and polished telephone manners.

Additional Requirements :
- Must be able to travel within the GTA as needed.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities.
- Ability to complete a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts.
- Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
- Additional satisfactory Background Checks and Employment References as required.
