JOB DESCRIPTION
THE ORGANIZATIONAL SETTING
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) a United Nations specialised agency that sets international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for aviation safety, air navigation, security, and environmental protection.ICAO is a knowledge-based organization engaged in developing intellectual property. The Revenue and Product Development (RPM) Section, part of the Capacity Development and Implementation Bureau (CDI), focuses on the organization”s revenue-generating activities, including events, publications, databases, websites, training, implementation services, and printing. These activities promote ICAO’s Strategic Goals and support related programs.
The Product Management Unit (PTM) identifies, analyses, and implements revenue-generating opportunities in ICAO. The marketing team, within PTM, is responsible for marketing ICAO products, services, and events. Under the Head of Marketing, the Graphic Designer will work as part of the marketing team to develop, produce, and deliver designs for branding, marketing, sales, and promotional materials for ICAO events, products, and services.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Function1 (incl. Expected results)
Support in the Development of ICAO Branding
- Research the identity and positioning of ICAO products, services, or business units requiring branding initiatives.
- Design, redesign, and produce the visual identity for ICAO products, services, or business units.
- Understand strategy briefs or business cases through research and internal client objectives.
- Obtain input from the Graphic Designer Manager and Head of Marketing to ensure designs meet organizational standards and brand expectations.
- Work independently and collaboratively with the design team, marketing, and other internal stakeholders to meet deadlines and stay within budget and project schedules.
- Design and update the brand book for each completed branding exercise.
- Ensure overall ICAO brand guidelines are respected.
- Provide design support for creating email templates.
Function 2 (incl. Expected results)
Provide Graphic Design and Video Support for UnitingAviation.com and ICAO TV Platforms
- Create rich media to support the UnitingAviation.com and ICAO TV platforms.
- Develop media kits and sales collateral to promote sponsorship opportunities on UnitingAviation.com and ICAO TV.
- Produce and distribute the ICAO UnitingAviation.com bi-monthly newsletter.
- Produce and distribute the ICAO Monthly Monitor newsletter from the Air Transport Bureau.
- Create and support email newsletters and social media promotions for video content and sponsor content on ICAO TV.
- Produce email marketing promotions and social media content for potential advertisers and sponsors.
- Edit videos for ICAO TV based on expert interviews, product promotions, webinars and ICAO events.
- Create and edit promotional videos for ICAO events, products and services.
- Support live streaming setup for ICAO TV.
Function 3 (incl. Expected results)
Design and Support Marketing, Sales, and Promotional Material for ICAO Events
- Produce event signatures and assist in designing or composing images and visuals to represent events.
- Develop and produce marketing kits, including interactive web banners, flyers, email signatures, social media images, landing pages, email marketing campaigns, and motion graphics videos based on existing brand manuals.
- Create event programs, content for ICAO event apps, booth designs, and onsite branding materials.
- Provide graphic design support for event website setup and online registration.
- Design sales support materials, including email signatures, mission support materials (flyers, brochures), sponsorship and exhibition forms, sales kits, and event calendars.
- Support ICAO virtual events by creating digital materials for ICAO TV and other digital platforms.
- Participate in meetings to ensure smooth implementation of promotional activities for events.
- Create and edit promotional videos for ICAO events.
- Work on other activities related to event promotions.
Function 4 (incl. Expected results)
Provide Graphic Design Support for ICAO Products and Services
- Produce creative graphics following campaign messages while ensuring accurate product and service branding.
- Collaborate with marketers, business analysts, and senior designers to develop banners and emails promoting ICAO Store and ICAO eLibrary products.
- Develop marketing materials for ICAO Products and Services, including visuals for email marketing campaigns, newsletters, interactive web banners, social media posts, banners, brochures, landing pages, and motion graphics videos.
- Manage selection of stock photography, vendor selection, and archiving of purchased assets.
- Create and edit promotional videos for ICAO Products and Services.
Function 5 (incl. Expected results)
File Organization and Mandatory Training
- Ensure files and working documents are organized according to established structures.
- Complete all organizational mandatory training during the time of service.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Educational background
Essential
A college degree in graphic design, video production or fine arts.
Desirable
A first-level university degree in graphic design or fine arts. Additional professional certificates in design, web development, and video production are assets.
Professional experience and Knowledge
Essential
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a graphic designer in corporate branding, product branding, user experience, user interface (UI/UX), digital product design, and digital marketing.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Premiere.
- Experience using Adobe After Effects/Premiere to produce motion graphics videos.
- Experience in video editing and production.
- Knowledge of web design standards and best practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
- Strong team player.
- Typography knowledge.
- Great time management skills and ability to handle rigid deadlines and revisions.
- Detail-oriented and results-driven with speedy output delivery.
Desirable
- Knowledge of HTML5 and CSS.
- Knowledge of WordPress CMS.
- Understanding of aviation-related customer needs and requirements.
Language Skill
Essential
- Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities inEnglish.
Desirable
- A working knowledge of any other language of the Organization(Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This consultancy is structured on an annual renewal basis, subject to performance and budget availability. As a consultant, this position does not include paid vacation/holiday days, insurance, or pension benefits. Consultants won”t be paid for vacation days, sick days and national holidays.
Compensation is provided at a daily rate ranging from CAD 186 to CAD 210 net. The consultant is expected to work five days a week, on a full-time basis (9 AM – 5 PM). It is required to be in the Montreal office for a minimum of 3 days a week. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required to support conferences and events. Employment income from UN agencies is tax exempt in Canada.
