Job Summary :
Reporting to the Baycrest’s Clinical Manager, Support Teams and Operations, the After-Hours Manager, is an important member of the Baycrest Leadership Team who provides visible leadership and decision-making in support of clinical and operational excellence, patient and family centered care, transitions and staffing outside of business hours, as scheduled. This role assumes responsibility for campus-wide (Baycrest Hospital and Apotex Long Term Care Home) management and ensures that performance goals are met while creating an environment that supports our values including compassion, advocacy, respect and empathy. This role will make strategic decisions around clinical care and operations, including staffing, adhering to principles of fiscal responsibility.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Works as on-site Manager and escalation point for operational matters, and supports staff during scheduled after hours shifts’
- Manages overall hospital and Apotex Centre (long-term care home) operations to ensure timely transfers, quality of care, and appropriate staffing levels
- Completes active rounding through clinical areas to ensure care areas are operating in accordance with organization’s policy and procedures
- Authorizes and optimizes the use of staff resources including replacement and reassignment of staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skills mix
- Promotes a patient & family-centered care approach and includes interprofessional team members in responding to issues identified by patients and families
- Fosters a positive climate among staff and provides support in problem solving, managing conflict and facilitating resolutions
- Acts as a knowledgeable and supportive resource by attending to urgent and crisis situations including Emergency Codes, Incident Management System (IMS) meetings
- Supports compliance with legislated requirements for Acute Care and Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care, professional, and accreditation standards for care and safety
- Provides support or leadership for legislated reporting requirements as required by the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MOLTC) when a critical incident arises, and communicate with respective unit manager to follow up
- Champions health and safety and infection prevention and control practices in the workplace
- Liaises with external agencies, community partners, and the general public as needed
- Provides shift-based documentation, to ensure continuity of care and transfer of accountability to upcoming after-hour managers or clinical managers to follow up
- Initiates conversation with staff members regarding any performance issues identified during the shifts, documents and communicates with respective managers to follow up
- Primary point of contact after hours to facilitate distribution of additional supplies on an as-needed basis (e.g. PPE for a new outbreak)
- Hours of work include evenings, weekends and holidays, as well as occasional weekdays
Qualifications include but are not limited to :
Current membership in good standing with a Regulated Health Discipline Professional College in OntarioBaccalaureate Degree with a Master’s Degree achieved or evidence of a Master’s Degree in progressCurrent and valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificationSignificant experience in the hospital and long-term care sector, with at least 3 years of progressive leadershipAbility to engage and support staff in carrying out job dutiesDemonstrated excellence in written, verbal communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skillsHighly developed critical thinking skills, including an ability to conceptualize problems, quickly analyze and make decisionsDemonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions, exercise judgement and initiativeExcellent time management with ability to coordinate several activities, with attention to detail and an ability to prioritizeKnowledge of and proficiency of computer applications and industry information systems (Meditech, Point Click Care)Knowledge and application of collective agreements, and legislation provisions which impact on work (Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act)Knowledge and proficiency with staff scheduling, labor relations and hospital operationsSatisfactory attendance recordAdditional Benefits :
