Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

LOCATION : NWSCC, North Bay

DEPARTMENT : Operations

SECURITY CLEARANCE : SECRET

SCOPE :

Reporting to the NWSCC Manager, the NWSCC Operations Supervisor oversees NWSCC Communications Crew Technicians, NWSCC Radar Crew Technicians, NWSCC Facilities Crew Technicians and Electronics Maintenance Technicians / Trainers. Using expertise and knowledge of data / voice communications, multiplexers, satellite / RF communications, router-based IP networks, radar systems and working knowledge in Facilities based systems in the provision of effective implementation and administration of the NWS contract to achieve the required performance in all assigned areas

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Provides guidance to personnel in establishing operation, maintenance, and inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Reviews corrective maintenance work requests for priority, work estimation and feasibility.
  • Supervises and supports the operation of the C&E / Radar systems for NWS sites.
  • Provides rotational on-call support for NWSCC Technicians.
  • Participates in installation planning phase, analyzing equipment failures to determine cause and recommending corrective action
  • Provides guidance and training to customer personnel in establishing operation, maintenance, and inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Creates and maintains shift schedule
  • Conducts environmental, safety, security and quality checks and audits, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and taking proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
  • Performs other duties / projects as assigned, to support the overall program and mission, and other initiatives of Nasittuq.

QUALIFICATIONS : EDUCATION :

  • Completion of postsecondary program in an electronics field or CF military equivalent.
  • Relevant related experience with one or more of the above systems will be given consideration.

    • CERTIFICATE(S) / LICENSE(S) :

  • Hold a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license, or provincial / territorial equivalent.
  • Must already hold a Level II (Secret) Clearance or be eligible to obtain one.

    • EXPERIENCE :

  • A minimum of five years of experience on the job training telecommunications / electronic systems with minimum two years of experience leading an electronics team.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate, influence, train and develop staff, ensuring compliance with company policies, safety protocols, and enforcing standard operating procedures
  • Familiarity with Facilities systems would be an asset.
  • Must be familiar with safety regulations and practices.

    • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :

  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications, RF, satellite, network systems, Radar systems.
  • Working knowledge of NWS Facilities systems.
  • The ability to read and interpret related drawings and manuals.

    • COMPETENCIES / SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Proven communication, analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Maximo.
  • Customer service and detail oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative team player with ability to work independently, reliable, punctual
  • Ability to work / contribute well independently and in a team environment.

    • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Knowledge of radar systems is considered an asset.
  • Previous supervisory experience considered an asset.
