Position Summary and Scope of Service :

This Occupational Therapy (OT) Position is a Pediatric position. It is a permanent .7 FTE position, which will be providing services in our St.Amant Health and Transition Services program (Child & Young Adult Health Services – CYAHS). This program provides short-term admissions to children and youth with a variety of needs including, but not limited to, feeding, neuromuscular and neurological conditions, and rehabilitation. The OT, as a member of the interdisciplinary team, plays an essential role in the safe and smooth transition to the community.
The Occupational Therapist will :
- Focus on the development and progression of safe feeding skills / programs, pediatric skill development and environmental assessments related to transitions to the community
- Assess, intervene, collaborate and develop goals with the child, family and team
- Provide education and training to staff, families and support teams to support admission goals of care
- Collaborate and communicate with family / caregivers, all healthcare providers and community agencies who are involved with the child
- Build partnerships with Children’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre for Children Feeding Clinic
Qualifications
Education :
Graduate of an accredited university program in Occupational TherapyProfessional :
Possess and maintains licensure with the College of Occupational Therapists of Manitoba (COTM) and is a member in good standingMember of or eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT)Member of or eligible for membership in the Manitoba Society of Occupational Therapists (MSOT)Clinical :
Experience in the area of developmental disabilities or a background in neurology is requiredExperience in the area of the Autism Spectrum is an assetExperience in Pediatrics is essentialExperience in the provision of special devices, and technology is an assetKnowledgeable of the history of service to people with disabilities, current trends, philosophies and practices concerning care, education and lifestylesAbility to understand, support and practice interdisciplinary teamwork to provide service in the clinical, educational or living environments of the person with a developmental disabilityAbility to manage and define a service plan with individual and care giversKnowledge of direct, mediated, and consultative models of practice and ability to apply these according to program protocolUnderstand own clinical limitations and seek support and consultation for clinical activities to do “no harm”Prioritize, structure, and manage scheduling caseload(s) effectively to achieve targeted outcomesPersonal :

Clinical Care Management :
The Occupational Therapist will develop and implement a plan for services while ensuring adherence to St.Amant Mission and Values, policies and professional regulations.
Duties include :
Assess and document the clients’ physical, sensory, cognitive and social needs and abilities; develop and implement appropriate treatment interventionsIntegrate treatment goals and interventions that align with age-appropriate programming and the home living environmentsProvide necessary demonstrations and training to individuals and care givers who will be carrying out Occupational Therapy recommendationsEnsure the provision of special devices and technology by working in consultation with funding agencies, commercial dealers, rehabilitation engineers and orthotics as requiredProvide for the maintenance and modification of special devices / technology by monitoring equipment and working with the Clinical Assistants, technicians or external service providersDevelop and monitor individualized or group programs / proceduresEnsure the involvement of an individual’s support network including direct care givers and family members (where applicable) in the assessment and intervention processEnsure there is appropriate consent related to intervention and exchange of information and reviews this regularlyEnsure that a service plan and timelines are specified for the intervention / transition processConsult effectively with other supports and services to ensure coordination of planningDocument and maintain client files in a format consistent manner with program protocol and timelinesEnsure clinical outcomes are monitored, documented and sharedReport and document all high risk or potentially high-risk situation according to PolicyEvaluate new products and equipment to meet client specific needsDevelop or construct material for client use or supervise a Clinical Assistant or Technician (where applicable) assigned to this functionDevelop clinical specialties / competencies in accordance with priority needs of the clientsIncorporate a research informed approach towards the delivery of serviceThe above information is intended to describe the general nature of this position and is not considered to be a complete statement of duties and responsibilities.
