The opportunity
Leduc County is looking for experienced and highly motivated Pesticide Applicators - Seasonal to join our team for the May – August season. Reporting to the Coordinator – Agricultural Services, this exciting opportunity involves controlling vegetation within the municipal rights-of-ways on Leduc County properties. As a member of the Agricultural Services team, the Pesticide Applicator contributes to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do
- Contributes to the maintenance of the department’s agricultural program by performing work and adhering to technical, departmental and municipal standards.
- Performs vegetation management using a Global Positioning System (GPS) and calibrated spray equipment.
- Conducts safe herbicide application in compliance with the Code of Practice for Pesticide within the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPA) and Standards and Good Practices for Industrial Vegetation Management guidelines.
- Assists with the development of plans and maintenance of vegetation control on Leduc County properties.
- Inspects, remedies and maintains the overall vegetation control within the municipal right-of-ways of Leduc County properties.
- Performs daily preventative maintenance checks of spray equipment and machinery.
- Practices safe use, handling, and storage of all pesticides and related equipment.
- Operates trucks, trailers, tractors, and live power equipment.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
- Performs related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must-have
- A high school diploma is required.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license is required.
- A service focus with good communication and interpersonal skills is required to communicate clearly (both verbally and in writing), ensure mutual understanding and encourage teamwork in the implementation of duties and prioritize tasks independently.
- Proven achievement of results is key to success in the role.
- Must be able to contribute effectively in a team environment and provide consistent, friendly, professional customer service.
Nice to have
- A pesticide applicator license and experience with Global Positioning System (GPS), calibrated spray equipment and identifying regional weeds is considered an asset.
- Basic knowledge and experience with hand and power tools is an asset.
- Experience and willingness to use a chainsaw is also an asset.
- An agricultural background is considered an asset.

We offer a competitive hourly wage of between $19.81 - $25.49. The opportunity is seasonal full-time and is 40 hours per week, with some extended hours to meet operational requirements.
