Opportunity
Reporting directly to the owners of this $30M+ company, the Controller is responsible for directing the accounting team, managing all aspects of the accounting and finance function, liaising with bankers, lawyers, external accountants, etc.
This opportunity will appeal to individuals who enjoy working in a friendly, supportive, and informal office environment with a predicable work schedule.
Experience in the construction industry would be an asset.
Controller – Job Responsibilities
Annual
- Coordinate year-end files for the Operating Company, two Holding Companies, and the Joint Venture for external accountant review.
- Prepare annual fiscal budgets.
- Manage commercial and liability insurance renewals.
- Prepare and file GST returns for two Holding Companies and remit Joint Venture property tax.
- Coordinate T4 submissions with payroll provider, calculate vehicle taxable benefits, and prepare T2200 forms.
- Complete EHT, WCB, and other annual statutory filings.
- Maintain utility and office lease contracts.
- Analyze, renew, and administer company benefits.
- Complete industry association surveys, recertifications, and warranty renewals.
Semi-Annual
Prepare six-month sales commission reports for 12 Project Managers.Quarterly
Prepare quarterly financial statements and margining reports for banking requirements.Complete quarterly WCB filings.Perform sales analysis by insurance company for internal and external reporting.Analyze gross margins by insurance company.Prepare and remit Joint Venture GST installments.Monthly
Prepare month-end financial statements for the Operating Company, including comprehensive WIP analysis, accruals, and intercompany reconciliations for two Holding Companies and the Joint Venture.Process semi-monthly payroll and payroll administration.Complete month-end bank reconciliations for the Operating Company and Joint Venture.Prepare and file monthly GST returns and tax installments for the Operating Company.Prepare and distribute month-end management reports to Project Managers.Close production and accounting jobs.Prepare and distribute accounts receivable reports.
Prepare month-end phone mobility and fuel usage reports.Maintain leased vehicle tracking and reporting.Weekly
Process vendor rebates.Update and analyze WIP estimated revenue and percentage of completion.Daily
Supervise and manage three direct reports.Monitor daily cash flow and process EFT submissions.Oversee IT function.Oversee employee benefits administration.As Required
Maintain banking relationships.Liaise with legal counsel on liens, BC Online filings, corporate registry matters, and related issues.Administer and develop accounting and management information systems, including departmental reporting.Process and issue certificates of insurance.Support salary and HR administration, including new hires, terminations, and employment letters.Coordinate and support CRA audits.Qualifications
