Job description

The Peel District School Board (PDSB) is a racially, culturally and linguistically diverse board that serves 155,000+ students and approximately 17,000 employees. Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Partner, Abilities, Wellness and Attendance, you will support the Board’s sick leave, WSIB, return to work and workplace accommodations program by managing the receipt of medical information to Abilities Partners, managing non-complex sick leave and WSIB cases, and conducting return to work meetings for non-complex cases.  You will also support the Employee Health Promotion and Attendance Support program, Childhood Disease Protocol as well as requests for ergonomic and assistive devices.

On a day-to-day basis, your work will primarily focus on supporting WSIB claims, including initiating WSIB claims (Form 7), liaising with WSIB RTW Specialists and case managers, and coordinating return-to-work and workplace accommodations. The duties of this role will also include offering intake assessment to review workplace incidents and medical documentation, advising when more information is needed, and charting medical documentation in Parklane.

As an Abilities Specialist, WSIB, you will rely on your excellent organizational and communication skills as you respond to queries while protecting confidential information, prepare and distribute absence reports, initiate and document contact with employees, maintain accurate up-to-date data, and prepare file summaries for legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Having earned a post-secondary diploma / degree related to Human Resources, Legal Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Business, Public Policy, Disability Management, Kinesiology or Occupational Therapy, or equivalent related education and experience, you’ll be ready to make a major contribution as an Abilities Specialist, Abilities, Wellness and Attendance.  Qualifications for this role include :
  • A professional designation such as, but not limited to, Disability Management Professional (CDMP), a Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC), Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP / L), Human Resources Certificate, Disability Management Certificate / Diploma, Paralegal or C.O.H.N.
  • A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of public sector, human resources, client case management, customer service, ergonomics experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of human resources practices and processes, collective agreements, and legislation specific to W.S.I.B, O.H.S.A, Human Rights Code, Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Employment Standards Act, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

  • Outstanding organization, time management, problem-solving, and record-keeping skills with demonstrated attention to detail and superior analytical and research abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to handle constant demands, deadlines and interruptions
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio)
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and / or work environment
