OnsiteCollins Aerospace is looking to hire a Machine Shop Apprentice who will be reporting to the Shop Supervisor, as the Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of Machine Shop Technicians to produce aircraft parts to drawing while operating various CNC machines, including lathes, milling machines, boring mills, etc. in accordance with the College of Trade Apprenticeship Program.
Work Location: Oakville Facility, Ontario – Canada
Work Shift: Apprentice training will include exposure to all areas of the shop, and your shift assignment will vary during your Apprenticeship. Once your training is complete, you will be assigned a steady shift.
What You Will Do
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and measuring instruments such as micrometers, Vernier caliper’s, bore gauges, surface finish comparators and wall thickness measuring equipment
Measure, examine, and test completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using above noted measuring devices
Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines in order to produce quality parts
Monitor feeds and speeds of machines during machining process to ensure same quality as mentioned above
Maintain tolerances by observing operation and making necessary machine offset adjustments, cutter changes and performing OSV (operator self-verification)
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances
Communicate with engineering, supervision, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information regarding quality and producibility of parts
Preform work from set-up sheets, manufacturing sheets and drawings as specified through developed process methods
Complete daily checks, documentation and production reports to ensure effective communication between team members and scheduling departments
Support and promote continuous improvement, 5S activities and standard work development
Other duties as assigned
Meet and maintain all requirements and qualifications set out in the General Machinist College of Trade Apprenticeship Program
Qualifications We Require
High School Diploma with strong mathematical and technical skills
Minimum third-year apprentice, currently enrolled in an accredited college in the General Machinist – College of Trades Apprenticeship Program.
The selected candidate has to be eligible to work in Canada; successful candidate must meet all requirements under ITAR and CCGP
