Job description

Just HR  has been exclusively engaged to recruit a  Human Resources Manager  for a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing innovative housing and support services within the healthcare sector. Our client delivers mental health support across various community-based settings throughout the Lower Mainland. With a mission-driven approach and a deep commitment to improving the lives of its residents, this organization exemplifies compassion and community impact.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Human Resources Manager will play a key role in shaping the organization’s people strategy, fostering workplace culture, and driving organizational development. This role oversees the daily operations of the HR function, including HRIS administration and payroll, disability and WorkSafe claim management, occupational health and safety programs, and labor and employee relations. The HR Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing HR policies, programs, and practices to support the organization’s continued success.

As part of the management team, the HR Manager provides strategic leadership to create an engaging and high-performing work environment. A critical aspect of this role involves working closely with unions, supporting unionized employees, and managing collective agreements. Additionally, the HR Manager will be responsible for employee relations, recruitment, performance management, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Responsibilities :

  • Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Advise and support managers and employees on various HR matters, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Manage employee relations issues, including disciplinary actions and terminations, with professionalism and fairness.
  • Lead and facilitate performance management initiatives, including evaluation systems and feedback processes.
  • Serve as a resource, mentor, and trainer on employee and labor relations, including collective agreement interpretation.
  • Proactively address and resolve labor relations matters, working collaboratively with union representatives.
  • Oversee appeal, grievance, and harassment complaint processes, ensuring fair and timely resolutions.
  • Champion staff wellness and workplace safety programs to promote a healthy work environment.
  • Partner with the leadership team to execute strategic HR initiatives and operational policies.

Requirements :

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and people management capabilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships.
  • Proven ability to manage conflict, including de-escalation and resolution strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Highly organized with strong time management abilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Formal education in Human Resources, with a minimum of three years of progressive HR experience and at least one year in a management or supervisory role.
  • CPHR designation is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience working in a unionized setting with collective agreements.
  • Solid understanding of employment legislation and labor laws.
  • Familiarity with ADP HR / Benefit and Workforce programs is an asset.
  • Remuneration :

  • Hybrid position with a salary range at $90,000 to $100,000 annually.
