Your opportunity :

In collaboration wtih the Assistant Director, Intercultural and Global Initiatives, the Supervisor, Intercultural Fluency and International Student Development, will advance the International Education Centre's (IEC) mission, as an innovative, collaborative and globally significant leader in the internationalization of the student experience, including fostering intercultural fluency for the UTM community. The Supervisor will assume primary responsibility for the oversight of international and intercultural programming within the IEC and ensuring initiatives reflect the programmatic cornerstones of peer mentorship, engagement, student learning & development.

The Supervisor will achieve this through the conception, implementation, and delivery of multi-modal programs that support University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) students, utilizing student development theory, intercultural frameworks, and the learning domains and competencies of the University of Toronto Co-Curricular Record (CCR). Apart from programmatic responsibilities, the Supervisor will be responsible for the hiring and training of casual and student staff within the IEC and providing further professional development opportunities. The Supervisor will play a critical role in developing, supporting, and advancing the work of the IEC, in order to provide coordinated and meaningful support to international and globally-minded students at UTM.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and / or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
  • Keeping well-informed on theories related to intercultural fluency, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Providing intercultural training opportunities and resources to staff and faculty who support students
  • Directing the activities of appointed and casual staff
  • Training and coaching student life staff and student leaders

Essential Qualifications :

  • University degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years related professional and / or para-professional experience with post-secondary student aged populations.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing equity theory, and / or critical race theory.
  • Exceptional intercultural competency awareness; experience working with diverse communities & cultures and an understanding of anti-oppression and equity practices, are required.
  • Exceptional supervisory skills including coaching and developing unionized staff.
  • Experience developing programs and initiatives within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large components of projects.
  • Financial management & budget experience.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Interpersonal and intercultural communications skills are essential.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills are required.
  • Strong written and public speaking skills necessary.
  • Excellent administrative skills, including word processing, data analysis, desktop publishing and experience with databases.
  • Proficiency in developing assessment tools, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Strong assessment (quantitative and qualitative) skills, including program evaluation and performance assessments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service and information communication standards of practice in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Thorough knowledge of the University's procedures as they relate to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FIPPA) and management of confidential student information.
  • Assets (Nonessential) :

  • Training in Project Management would be anasset.
  • Qualified Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory would be an asset.
  • Advanced Excel and Power Automate skills preferred.

    Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone : USW Pay Band 13 $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation / Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
