The Opportunity
To support VAST’s strategic and operational goals, we seek a talented and experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager (Senior) who will embrace our close-knit culture and positive, team-oriented working environment. The Civil Engineering Project Manager will oversee and coordinate infrastructure and development projects to support our clients throughout the East and West Kootenay regions. This role combines technical leadership with elements of client engagement, business development, and team coordination. This position is based in Cranbrook or Nelson , BC.
Location : Based in Cranbrook or Nelson, with work at various locations in the Kootenay region
Starting date : As soon as possible
Employment status : Full-time / permanent
Hours of work : Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, occasional overtime required
Wage : The expected hourly wage range for this position is $51.40 to $60.50 per hour, depending on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education requirements : Post-secondary education in civil engineering, logistics, or a related technical or engineering discipline from a recognized academic institution.
Experience requirements : Seven (7) or more years of relevant project management experience in civil works, construction, or related sectors, including five (5) years in a project / team leadership role managing and coordinating multi-disciplinary consulting projects. Eligibility for professional designation or certification (e.g., P.Eng., PMP, or equivalent) is considered an asset.
Your Responsibilities
Plan and oversee civil engineering projects such as roads, bridges, water and waste systems, and structural components, including new builds, renovations and restorations.
Interpret and review survey data, engineering drawings, and civil design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Conduct field services for civil works, feasibility assessments, and environmental monitoring related to air, water, and soil quality.
Prepare technical reports and analyses based on survey, geotechnical, topographic, hydrological, and environmental data.
Lead or supervise construction work and land surveys, ensuring adherence to safety, regulatory, and design standards.
Prepare and review contract documents, cost estimates, and tender submissions for engineering and construction projects.
Collaborate with project leaders on all aspects of project delivery, including scope development, budget planning, work plans, scheduling, and risk management.
Engage with clients, regulators, Indigenous Nations, and community stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates, and maintain strong working relationships.
Oversee project execution by tracking scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables; elevate issues to ensure successful outcomes.
Provide quality assurance / quality control (QA / QC) reviews for technical reports, proposals, and communications.
Support internal knowledge sharing and ensure effective communication across project teams and service areas.
Contribute to business development by identifying new service areas or sectors and evaluating potential opportunities in collaboration with the Business Development Specialist.
Supervise junior / intermediate staff, including seasonal staff.
Contribute to a positive workplace atmosphere, building on VAST’s culture of teamwork, fun, professionalism and cooperation within the office and field environments.
Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility, adaptive management and teamwork is a definite asset.
Our Ideal Candidate

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS
The primary work location is Cranbrook or Nelson , BC
A mix of office-based planning and field-based supervision
Standard work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday. Typically 8 hours per day
Occasional travel to project sites throughout BC’s Kootenay region
