Education Facilitator

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of all educational programs that pertain to West Edmonton Mall’s Marine Life Education.

The successful applicant will be working closely with the Education Supervisor and the Animal Care department

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Deliver Marine Life educational programs that cater from preschool to Grade 12, and general public groups.
  • Take course bookings and confirm courses with customers.
  • Deliver presentations and monitor touch pools as required.
  • Assist Marine Life Education Supervisor in the preparation of the Marine Life Education budget.
  • Assist supervisors with creating the CAZA education committee.
  • Provide course information to clients and liaise with existing groups on an ongoing basis.
  • Learning animal care and handling for presentation ambassador animals, including turtles, tortoise, lizards, frogs, small snakes, sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers and anemones.
  • Communication between departments, including Admissions, Marketing, and Maintenance
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of program bookings, balancing program needs and staffing requirements.
  • Provide reptile and invertebrates outreach programs.

Other duties as required

Desired Qualifications :

  • Training in educational programing.
  • Post secondary degree in education, and knowledge of the Alberta Curriculum program an asset.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage and control a classroom of children.
  • Ability to work successfully with professional education officials and teachers.
  • Previous animal handling experience is an asset.
  • Able to develop new curriculum related courses.
  • First Aid and CPR courses.
  • Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with programs such as Microsoft teams, Word, Excel, and Galaxy an asset

Terms of Employment :

  • This is a permanent, full-time position that requires flexible availability for days, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers’ License and able to provide a clear Driver’s Abstract. Required
  • This position works in a busy mall environment primarily at attractions and in a classroom setting.
  • This individual is required to interact successfully with guests and children of all ages.
  • The position requires some city traveling to deliver educational courses.
  • Must be able to carry 50lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
