We are looking to add to the strength of our team by bringing in a Research Director with significant and broad experience in conducting legal research on a wide range of legal topics and areas of law. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth legal research on a wide range of legal topics and areas of law
- Collect and review legal documents and case law to provide analysis and summaries
- Prepare legal briefs, reports, memoranda, and other documents as required
- Organize and present research findings clearly and concisely
- Collaborate effectively with litigation lawyers, staff, and articling students to support their legal research needs
- Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and legal precedents that may impact ongoing cases or projects
- Provide recommendations and sound legal advice based on research findings
- Assist in drafting legal pleadings, motions, and other legal documents
- Assist in preparing for trials, hearings, and other legal proceedings
- Support other functions in the department as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (LLB) or Juris Doctor degree (JD) in lawMinimum of five years’ experience in legal researchStrong knowledge and understanding of court rules and proceduresAdvanced technical skills in a variety of software including MS Office 365Proficiency in using legal research tools and databasesStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong verbal and written communication skillsProfessional presentation and strong ability to exercise discretion and confidentialityBilingualism is considered an assetSkills Required
