THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Application Solutions the Analyst, SAP will oversee and enhance all components of a designated portfolio of business applications. This includes tracking and addressing potential risks to ensure that systems and applications meet both business and technical goals. The position involves providing technical support, encompassing tasks such as development, configuration, testing, implementation, integration, and ongoing management of the applications and systems. The role collaborates with internal stakeholders and other IT team members to implement new services, offer continuous technical support, and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Additionally, the role acts as the primary IT escalation point for the assigned portfolio, focusing on risk mitigation, addressing action items, and resolving issues and decisions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Application Portfolio Management
Provide oversight and day-to-day management of an assigned portfolio of business systems and applications to ensure alignment with business and technology objectives.Serve as the operational support escalation point for risks, action items, issues, and decisions.Assign tasks and responsibilities to service providers as needed to ensure timely completion of objectives.Continuously evaluate the risk profile of applications throughout their product lifecycle.Plan for and implement updates to business applications as required.Troubleshoot issues in a systematic, predictable, and timely manner as they arise.Liaise with other IT team members, suppliers, and business contacts to resolve raised issues.Recommend updates and functional changes to enhance business solutions and ensure long-term effectiveness.Collaborate with IT team members and suppliers to resolve and remediate issues affecting end-user access and functionality of Al Pac’s business applications.Solution Design of Application Portfolio
Lead the design of applications / solutions and develop requirements specifications with guidance from the Enterprise IT & Data Architect.Ensure that the architecture of each solution aligns with Al Pac’s enterprise architecture and integration requirements.Maintain consistency in solutions by adhering to technology standards, selected product sets, and best practices in design and development.Collaborate with the Reporting & Integration Architect – SAP / Non-SAP to ensure seamless integration between SAP solutions and Al Pac’s non-SAP applications.Application Lifecycle Management
Collaborate with Business Process Owners and functional specialists in various business areas (e.g., Woodlands, Pulp, Environmental Services) to plan, design, and implement new functionality that supports business users and processes.Define and clarify business stakeholder needs, translating them into requirements for solution design, development, and the refinement of related business processes.Ensure business needs are clearly identified and converted into detailed technical requirements.Validate that both business needs and required IT capabilities are accurately captured.Produce detailed specifications and perform scripting, programming, and report writing as necessary.Create, implement, and refine scripts and tools to support the solution.Assist in transitioning product enhancements into business areas by ensuring the development of appropriate user training materials.Application Project Portfolio Management
Following the defined IT Change Management methodology and working with the Change Coordinator & Quality Analyst, manage, organize, plan, control and monitor all tasks and resources required to achieve defined project goals.Control project tasks throughout the life of an approved project, according to the Al Pac defined change methodology to ensure : benefits, costs, quality, risks, scope and timeframes are met.Testing
Lead testing efforts specific to system and functional testing of changes and updates to the assigned business applications.Be responsible for creating and following testing scripts and documented use cases.Working with IT team members, ensure the underlying integration, infrastructure and networks are configured and running optimally to support a new / changed business application.Work with business subject matter experts, to coordinate user acceptance testing of changes prior to release into production.Portfolio Supplier Management
Review vendor invoices to confirm delivery of contracted technical services.Technology Governance
Collaboratively work with the Enterprise IT Leadership to set development standards with IT stakeholders.Contribute to Al-Pac’s IT Security Posture
Work in collaboration with Al-Pac’s technology team and partners, to proactively ensure IT security is appropriately addressed across Al-Pac’s technology environment.FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Education
A post-secondary diploma or equivalent in information and communication technologies or computing science is required.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience or demonstrated mastery in system administration and support is required.Minimum 3 years of experience with SAP Basis is required.Experience in Security Design, Customization, Implementation, and Auditing of SAP roles and authorization (S / 4HANA, Fiori, BTP, SAC etc.) is required.Working knowledge and experience with utilizing Agile development methodologies is an asset.Working knowledge of computing environments, trends, and market players is an asset.Competencies and Knowledge

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Al-Pac professional staff work Monday – Thursday from 7am – 5pm. This role will work out of Al-Pac’s main office in St. Albert, with occasional travel to the mill in Athabasca.
