About Potash
The Jansen project in Saskatchewan Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewans history Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.
Jansens construction will take place over several years with first production planned for mid-2027. Once fully ramped up Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. Purpose
The Principal Cloud & Network will lead the architecture implementation and lifecycle support of secure highly available network services that enable BHP Potash operations at Jansen (JS1 / JS2) to transition from construction to steady-state production. This role provides senior on-the-ground technical leadership in Saskatoon partnering closely with local operations and global Cloud & Networks teams to improve incident response ensure operational continuity and scale network capabilities across IT / OT environments. The role also includes managing change processes and supporting the lead team through reporting and assistance in key activities.
About the Role
In this role you will :
Architect implement and maintain enterprise and industrial network solutions aligned to global Cloud & Networks standards (campus data centre WAN / SD-WAN remote sites and IT networks).
Serve as the primary senior technical contact based in Saskatoon; collaborate with Jansen site operations Potash stakeholders and global / regional teams (Chile Tucson Australia).
Lead resolution of complex incidents and problems; drive root-cause analysis and sustainable fixes with strong change management and documentation.
Design and govern connectivity across hybrid environments (onprem Azure / AWS and industrial systems) including segmentation and security controls.
Plan and execute transitions for new facilities and services (e.g. JS1 / JS2 ramp-up) ensuring performance resilience and operability.
Oversee and mentor contractors and vendors delivering network services and projects; verify adherence to standards and safety requirements.
Monitor report and continuously improve network performance availability and user experience; provide clear metrics and updates to leadership.
Work Location
Downtown Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
About You
Bachelors degree in Network Engineering Telecommunications Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
Extended enterprise in network design / operations for critical environments (mining energy manufacturing or similar).
Hands-on expertise with SD-WAN routing / segmentation (e.g. BGP EVPN) and large campus / data-centre networking.
Demonstrated experience integrating IT / OT networks including industrial connectivity and security considerations.
Strong understanding of Software-Defined Networking and cloud connectivity architectures (Azure AWS).
Proven incident management change control documentation discipline and cross-functional leadership.
Advanced English proficiency; Spanish is an advantage.
Professional certifications (e.g. CCNP CCIE or equivalent); experience with data-centre migrations / transitions private LTE and / or MCPTT systems; and background in greenfield or large-scale infrastructure build-outs is desirable.
