Position Overview : As a member of the Testing & Commissioning (T&C) team in the field, the T&C Leader serves as the technical lead, coordinating and integrating T&C activities for the ATS subsystem within the GTCS project. The T&C Lead shares responsibility with the T&C Manager and Tester in Charge for managing and successfully completing testing and commissioning activities in the field. This individual ensures that various T&C procedures and plans align with applicable subsystem specification documents, project strategy, and company policies—including EHS, railway safety, local regulations, and professional standards.

The T&C Leader collaborates closely with the Validation and Verification (V&V) and engineering teams to develop documentation related to field activities that meet project requirements. Additionally, the T&C Lead interfaces with representatives from other Alstom product lines, Subsystem Engineering Leads, Safety, V&V, Engineering, Quality, PrEM, and other Subject Matter Experts to source technical knowledge for site support. The T&C Lead will prepare, plan, and execute Testing & Commissioning activities in support of the Metrolinx project while working in a Brownfield environment, where various testing activities may necessitate performing a portion of the work during non-revenue hours (nights and weekends).

Location : The headquarters for this position is the ALSTOM office, located in downtown Toronto; however, a significant amount of time will be spent in Oakville at the customer's Network Operations Center (NOC). Additionally, occasional travel to other sites on the MLX system may be required.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Collaborate with the Project Commissioning Manager to define the T&C strategy and develop high-level planning of testing activities.
  • Evaluate and validate the Scope of Testing in the field to ensure alignment with the overall commissioning plan and strategy, as well as the Project Road Map.
  • Identify and communicate gaps / risks in the overall testing strategy to the Commissioning Manager, team, and / or customer as necessary.
  • Lead the prioritization and coordination of T&C weekly testing activities.
  • Prepare and execute testing activities for railway signaling technologies under the supervision of management and in accordance with Alstom Transport policies and standards.
  • Develop and review T&C procedures for the signaling subsystem and against contractual requirements.
  • Execute specific testing activities according to testing procedures / documentation and instructions from the Sub-System Team Leader and / or PrCOM.
  • Adhere to testing schedules and plans for internal and external customers.
  • Ensure high-quality performance in all activities while meeting customer expectations and project schedules.
  • Accurately capture all test results and prepare technical test reports for customer submission.
  • Proactively interact with Engineering and V&V Sub-System leaders to optimize site testing and resolve testing issues.
  • Utilize appropriate tools and equipment to conduct electrical and mechanical test activities, ensuring that equipment is calibrated and traceable.
  • Use and adhere to the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined by the EHS plan and customer requirements.
  • Notify management of any identified risks during testing activities and escalate EHS risks to the appropriate parties (e.g., Sub-System Leader, PrCOM, PM, RC TCM).
  • Read, understand, and create Test Plans, Procedures, PPDS, SSWPs, certificates, and other documentation as required in coordination with the T&C Commissioning Manager.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience, with at least 1 year in the rail signaling industry, specifically with ATS, HMI, OCG, FEP, Track Layout, and ICONIS.
  • Knowledge of rail conventional signaling (fixed block) and other signaling testing elements considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Teams, and Word).
  • Proficient in WireShark and VBA.
  • Experienced with the V-Model system design process.
  • At least 5 years of proven hands-on testing experience with signaling systems and related complexities as a functional tester in a similar role.
  • Experienced in writing and reviewing technical reports and communicating effectively at technical and managerial levels.
  • Familiarity with projects and customers under Transport Canada and the Canadian Transportation Agency.
  • Experience or qualification in CROR, GCOR, or NORAC is considered an asset.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology (electrical / computer / computer science) or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean record is considered an asset.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.
  • Experience in Network Telecommunications is considered an asset.
  • Behavioral and Technical Skills / Competencies :

  • Adheres to all applicable regulations, customer rules, and professional standards (including EHS).
  • Punctual, reliable, responsible, and eager to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Performs responsibilities with minimal direction / supervision from superiors.
  • Desirable Skills / Certifications :

  • Knowledge of Metrolinx Operating Rules or similar Transit Organizations.
  • Experience with ALSTOM processes and procedures.
  • Direct experience with the Metrolinx system and operating environment is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with ALSTOM equipment.
  • Language Skills :

  • Fluent in English.
  • French considered an asset.
  • Organizational Reporting :

  • Direct reporting to : Project TiC / PrCom and Canada T&C Department Head.
  • Indirect reporting to : Team Lead, Project Manager.
