Job description

Job Description

Metroland is looking for a versatile, creative and enterprising reporter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can give our audiences the news they need in efficient, effective and digestible formats.

This job is quick moving, high-energy and – if you’re wired this way really fun. The successful candidate will use digital listening tools and collaborate with editors to understand what the audience is hungry for while staying firmly connected to Metroland’s principles and commitment to quality journalism.

The ideal candidate understands that a story can take on many shapes and incorporates elements including text, photography, graphics, video, audio, social embeds and in-depth interactives. You will use those building blocks to create explainers, quick hits, lists, stories told in images, matchers and videos for multiple platforms. At times you will be called on to pull together reporting from across Metroland’s community newsrooms and other sources to craft a narrative that keeps the reader hooked to the end, and still wanting more.

Salary Range $37,850.13 to $56,829.84

Deadline to apply for this role is : January 31, 2025

  • You ‘get’ social media and know how to use different platforms to source and share information.
  • You understand the importance of SEO and online best practices and use these to reach a wider audience.
  • You’re a self-starter able to generate unique and compelling story ideas, but also a team player who loves to collaborate and is easily assignable
  • You have knowledge of Canadian Press style
  • You can work remotely.
