Job Profile:

Lions Housing Centres Inc. is recruiting for a permanent 0.7 EFT Evening Resident Care Manager (RCM) / Clinical Educator position. This position is responsible for providing overall clinical leadership, coordination, and operational oversight across all three resident care units during the evening shift while supporting the organization's education, quality improvement, and staff development initiatives.

Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team, the Evening RCM/Clinical Educator is committed to ensuring the highest quality of resident care through clinical leadership, staff coaching, education, mentoring, and continuous quality improvement.

Although this is primarily an evening position, the successful candidate must be flexible and available to adjust their schedule to include day, night, and weekend shifts, as operationally required, to deliver staff education, mentorship, orientation, competency assessments, and other clinical education initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

Resident Care/Clinical Practice:

  • Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver safe, quality resident care.
  • Directs, plans, and coordinates resident care to meet or exceed Regional, Provincial, and National standards, ensuring continuity of care.
  • Evaluates care delivery, resident outcomes, and satisfaction of residents and staff.
  • Ensures current policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines are utilized to facilitate safe care.
  • Facilitates efficient discharges and transfers in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Implements Fire and Disaster Plans and security protocols for resident safety.
  • Establishes, monitors, and evaluates departmental objectives aligned with the mission and philosophy.
  • Prioritizes care based on resident needs.
  • Participates in best practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promotes effective communication with residents, families, staff, external care agencies, and providers.
  • Provides evening clinical leadership and serves as the resource person for nursing staff.
  • Follows up on unresolved resident care concerns and communicates significant issues to the Director of Care and interdisciplinary team as required.
  • Provides leadership and clinical support to the night shift team to promote continuity of resident care.

Education and Staff Development:

  • Coordinates and delivers mandatory annual education in accordance with Manitoba long-term care standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops, coordinates, and facilitates staff education sessions, in-services, and competency-based learning.
  • Maintains education records and staff competency documentation to ensure compliance with mandatory education requirements.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees, students, and agency staff.
  • Identifies learning needs through observations, audits, incident reviews, quality indicators, and staff feedback.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and bedside teaching to promote evidence-informed practice.
  • Assists with implementation of new policies, procedures, equipment, technology, and best practices through staff education.
  • Maintains annual education schedules and monitors completion rates.
  • Collaborates with managers and interdisciplinary team members to support continuous learning and professional development.

Quality Improvement and Audits:

  • Participates in best practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Completes, monitors, and maintains records of clinical and operational audits.
  • Reviews audit results on a quarterly basis and develops action plans in collaboration with leadership.
  • Monitors compliance with infection prevention and control, medication management, documentation standards, restraint reduction, skin and wound care, falls prevention, and other quality indicators.
  • Provides education and follow-up based on audit findings.
  • Assists with accreditation and Manitoba standards compliance activities.
  • Supports quality improvement projects and monitors outcomes.

Resource Management:

  • Identifies budget management issues affecting unit operations and informs the Director of Care.
  • Enhances efficiency and cost-effectiveness through unit and LHC initiatives.
  • Reports unit supply and equipment needs.
  • Communicates equipment repair and maintenance needs for resident and staff safety.
  • Participates in budget planning for human resources and equipment.

Human Resource Management:

  • Plans unit resident care assignments based on acuity/complexity and staff expertise.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels during the evening shift and collaborates regarding overnight staffing requirements, considering resident acuity and safety.
  • Follows up on staffing concerns identified during the evening shift and communicates recommendations to the Director of Care.
  • Assists with staff scheduling concerns and supports staffing coordination as required.
  • Participates in hiring new employees based on resident care needs and organizational guidelines.
  • Ensures staff receive necessary orientation for safe resident care.
  • Conducts performance appraisals as assigned, provides coaching, and participates in progressive discipline.\
  • Follows up on employee performance concerns and Human Resources issues in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources and the Director of Care regarding employee attendance, performance management, and workplace concerns.
  • Supports employee engagement through regular coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams for a safe environment.
  • Develops effective unit communication, including regular staff meetings.
  • Provides leadership, support, and follow-up with the night shift team to ensure continuity of care, completion of assigned work, and communication of resident care concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Professionalism:

  • Maintains confidentiality regarding residents, staff, and facility operations.
  • Adheres to the organization's Respectful Workplace Policy and Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Participates in mandatory annual education.
  • Collaborates with all staff as required.
  • Promotes effective working relationships among team members.
  • Embraces organizational initiatives for resident care improvement, including new technology, systems, and procedures.
  • Acts as a leader and role model for professional and personal growth of staff.
  • Effectively communicates with residents, families, staff, and external care providers.
  • Adheres to and implements organizational policies and procedures.

Your education and qualifications:

  • LTC experience.
  • Current registration with CRNM, CLPNM or CRPNM.
  • Minimum one (3) year of supervisory experience, preferably in long-term care.
  • Experience in staff education, orientation, or clinical teaching is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba long-term care standards, quality improvement processes, and adult learning principles is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MDS.
  • Experience conducting clinical audits and maintaining education records is an asset.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of employment standards and occupational health and safety.
  • Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and exercise sound clinical judgment.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Up-to-date immunization.
