Help shape Alberta’s healthier future as you work to advance patient safety and reduce the risk of infection for patients and clients across the province! Alberta Health Services (AHS) is now seeking an experienced senior leader for the role of Senior Provincial Director (SPD), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

This key leadership role is a valued member of the senior leadership team and will influence provincial and organizational initiatives aimed at limiting the transmission of infection-causing organisms. Working in partnership with the Senior Medical Director, IPC, you will develop positive working relationships as you collaborate with both internal and external partners across the continuum of care. As the SPD- IPC, you will lead a multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of provincially aligned infection prevention and control initiatives.

As this role is provincial in scope, your work location is negotiable within Alberta.

AHS delivers high-quality acute care services to more than 4.5 million people living in Alberta, as well as occasionally to some residents of other provinces and territories. We are a nation-leading hospital-based service provider operating 106 facilities across the province and we are dedicated to excellence in patient care. Showcase your leadership skills at AHS, where we strive to foster an environment where patients, clients, and staff feel safe, healthy, valued and supported.

See full details and apply below.

This includes managing risks, and anticipating, recognizing, and reacting to emerging or novel infection hazards. These initiatives may also apply to external partnership and other Provincial Health Agencies and Corporations.

You will develop and maintain effective working relationships to collaborate with a variety of internal and external partners to plan, execute, and evaluate province-wide and specialized IPC programs, initiatives, standards, and practices, with a view to continuous improvement.

You will manage the operating budget for IPC working in partnership with the program’s leadership team, establishing budget targets that are consistent with the plans and general guidelines established by Acute Care Alberta. This includes allocation of resources, authorizing and controlling expenditures, and prudently managing fiscal, financial, and human resources allocated to the program.

A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 3 years in a senior management position, in a healthcare environment, working within a public sector organization of significant size, complexity, or diversity is required. Proven experience leading and overseeing an IPC program or functional area, with accountability for planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous quality improvement.

A combination of experience and education will be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses advanced content knowledge in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), including evidence‑based practices, current guidelines, and applicable legislation, standards, and accreditation requirements.
