Job description
My partner and I have 2 dogs, one a small medium sized King Charles Cavalier Spaniel (Madison), and the other a small poodle mix (Marley). We often take them with us, but it's sometimes too cold. The spaniel is 9 years old, the poodle 3. The poodle is fairly new to us (a rescue) and is not ready to be left alone. At the moment, we are looking for someone to dog sit them in our home for the evening of January 24 so that we can visit friends. We need to verify the time frame with our friends, but perhaps 5 or 6 PM to midnight. The dogs are generally good-natured but can be noisy at first with new people. Marley can be scared of new situations at first, and if approached too quickly, can get snappy. The two dogs tend to settle down after a while, but might start barking at a new person if they get up from their seat. Sometimes they are better with new people if we are not around (no need to be guard dogs for us). Marley needs to be comfortable with someone before letting them put on a coat or a leash. This happens more quickly with some people than others. Managing possible walks would need to be discussed, or it might be easier to let them out into the fenced back yard to do their business, given that it's not an overnight stay. T he main qualification would be to be patient with them and let them come to you. We would leave them water and feed them before we left. Treats would be available and, as always, a good icebreaker. Our friends live about 10 minutes away so we would be available if necessary.. We would prefer someone with some experience with dogs, and references would be helpful. I don't see an extensive interview process at this point. Both dogs are fully vaccinated. No overnight stay required. For the right person, there could be similar future opportunities.
