Job Overview : A Personal Support Worker works in private homes, residential settings, facilities, and hospitals which provides personal care and support to clients who need assistance with daily needs such as bathing, grooming, medications, feeding, and performing other day-to-day activities. An ideal Personal Support Worker possesses strong communication skills, organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as people skills. A Personal Support Worker must be able to deal effectively with the demands of the job.

Job Duties and Responsibilities :

• Assisting with ambulation, mobility, transferring, feeding, dressing and grooming, meal preparation, medications
• Providing joyful companionship and monitoring client’s safety
• Performing light housekeeping, tidying up, doing laundry, making beds
• Assisting or providing personal care such as toileting, bathing, showering
• Following the care plan, observing and reporting any findings and changes in client’s behaviour to the healthcare team
• Documentation of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and other findings
• Performing delegated tasks if trained to perform the delegated tasks
• Assisting the client to reach maximum potential

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

• Minimum of 2 years professional experience supporting with elderly, disabilities, illness, challenging behaviours, and dealing with cognitive or chronic disorders
• Certification of Caregiver Training, Personal Support Worker, or equivalent
• Standard First Aid / CPR and Vulnerable Sector Screening Check is required
• Experienced with medical cases such as cognitive or chronic disorders, such as Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Palliative Care, Musculoskeletal Disorders, and others
• Proficient in oral and written communication skills
• A willingness to work flexible hours as the shift may varies
