Mon Sheong FoundationStouffville- Full-time
On June 14, Mon Sheong Walk & Fun welcomed over 600 community members at Richmond Green Sports Centre & Park. Taking place on the Saturday before Father’s Day, the vibrant fundraising event combined an outdoor charity walk with a Fun Fair featuring game booths, live entertainment and free refreshments, attracting a sizable public turnout. Dignitaries from all three levels of government attended to show their support for this meaningful event. Proceeds from the charity walk will go towards Mon Sheong Foundation’s “Because We Care” Capital Campaign in support of new Mon Sheong Long-Term Care Centres in Stouffville, Markham and Richmond Hill.
We’ve been raising funds to develop three new Long-Term Care Centres,” said Tim Kwan, Chairman of Mon Sheong Foundation. “We are proud to have completed construction of Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre in Stouffville. In preparation for resident admission, which will begin this summer, we are in the final stages of staff recruitment and training, and the new facility is undergoing inspections by the provincial and municipal governments. Upon the opening of Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre, Mon Sheong’s total number of operating care beds will rise to 1,001, making us the largest non-profit long-term care operator in Ontario.”
There are already over 900 applicants on the waiting list for 224 new care beds at Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo LongTerm Care Centre, reflecting a high demand for quality senior care. We are continuing our efforts to develop more long-term care facilities in the Greater Toronto Area. The 320-bed Mon Sheong Markham Long-Term Care Centre is on track for completion in spring 2026. Managing multiple construction projects requires significant resources. As we move forward, we are grateful for the community walking by our side.”
Garth Low, President of Mon Sheong Foundation, added, “As with all of our new care homes, Mon Sheong Dr. Paul Woo Long-Term Care Centre is designed to prioritize resident-centred care. The eight-story facility will provide ensuite washrooms and individual Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units in all basic and private accommodations. An Open House will be held on the morning of June 27, 28 and 29, with guided facility tours available to the public.”
The charity walk followed a nature trail loop in Richmond Green Park, giving way to scenic views of a rose garden, a stone bridge and a waterfall over the pond. Participating teams were formed by families, corporations and community organizations. “We are grateful to see such a crowd on Father’s Day weekend, reflecting strong community support,” said Event Co-Chairs Raymond Lam and Simon Ng.
In addition to the charity walk, we are holding a Fun Fair at Richmond Green Sports Centre, which is open to public. Our wide range of recreational activities is designed to appeal to the whole family : an inflatable game zone, a massage station, face painting, photo booth, and game booths with prizes. Supporting the growth of long-term care facilities is a key theme in many of our games. Visitors have enjoyed fairground staples such as cotton candy, popcorn and pizza, along with live performances of Zumba, line dance and singing. We hope that this event will inform our community about the Foundation’s mission and garner more public support.”
The Organizing Committee is thankful to Event Sponsor MediSystem Pharmacy, as well as the many sponsors, partners and fundraising teams for their support. Gratitude is also extended to the Committee members, Mon Sheong staff and volunteers who contributed to a successful event.
Mon Sheong Walk & Fun is accepting online donations until June 30, 2025. Donations of $20 or above are eligible for a tax receipt. Registered participants will receive prizes upon raising a designated amount : participants who raise $500 or more will receive a $20 Pizzaville voucher, and participants who raise $1,000 or more will receive an additional
PurAthletics foam roller (valued at $35). Special prizes will be awarded to participants leading the fundraising efforts in each age category : Mon Sheong Foundation Chinese School Scholarship valued at $440 (child or youth), OSIM small machine (adult), and two Mon Sheong Golden Seniors Celebration tickets (senior). The highest performing Family Team will receive a gift basket valued at $150.
