Job description

Join the City of Medicine Hat as a Coordinator, Special Projects!

Temporary (Up to 12 months) | Full‑Time | On site

Starting at $36.03 per hour

Are you a highly organized coordinator who thrives on turning ideas into action? Medicine Hat Economic Development is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented professional to help move high-impact initiatives forward through strong project coordination, thoughtful follow-up, and seamless event support. In this role, you'll work alongside a collaborative team to keep priorities on track, bring people together, and help create meaningful momentum on projects that support economic development and community impact.

We're a team that believes how we work is just as important as the work we do. Grounded in our values - Own It, Team Up, Be Curious, and Service with Care - we're committed to delivering meaningful impact for our community while supporting each other along the way.

What you'll do

  • Help projects move from concept to action by coordinating next steps, tracking follow-ups, and ensuring priorities continue progressing.
  • Create alignment across teams and stakeholders by coordinating meetings, supporting agendas and materials, and helping people stay connected to shared goals.
  • Contribute to well-executed events that strengthen relationships, support initiatives, and advance departmental objectives.
  • Support smooth delivery of cross-functional work by collaborating with internal teams, external stakeholders, and project contributors.
  • Bring structure to fast-moving priorities through strong organization, clear communication, and reliable follow-through.
  • Help the team stay focused and responsive in a changing environment by anticipating needs, solving problems, and keeping details on track.

A closer look at the role

In this role, no two days look exactly the same. One day, you may be coordinating a project follow-up plan, preparing materials for a working session, and ensuring stakeholders have what they need to keep work moving. Another day, you may be supporting committee or project meetings, coordinating logistics for an upcoming event, or working closely with team members to keep timelines, deliverables, and communication organized. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys being at the center of activity, bringing clarity, momentum, and coordination to important work without losing sight of the details.

You'll be part of a team that values initiative, collaboration, diplomacy, and community impact. Success in this role comes from being someone others can rely on. A person who follows through, communicates clearly, adapts quickly, and helps transform moving pieces into meaningful progress.

What you bring

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong writing, proofreading, editing, and verbal communication abilities.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • A collaborative mindset paired with the confidence to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple moving pieces at once.
  • Flexibility, responsiveness, and a solutions-oriented approach in fast-paced or changing environments.
  • Resourcefulness and follow-through, with a strong ability to keep work progressing and goals on track.
  • A service-focused attitude and a genuine interest in contributing to meaningful community impact

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in business administration or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a coordination or administrative support environment, including at least two (2) years of event coordination experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other modern office software, with the ability to learn new systems and applications is an asset.
  • Knowledge of event coordination practices, including logistics and health and safety requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Why you'll love working with us

We show up with accountability, care, and teamwork - every day, with every person. Our values guide how we work together, serve our community, and support one another so we can deliver exceptional public service.

  • Collaborative team culture: Be part of a supportive environment where we Team Up to deliver great community outcomes.
  • Career growth and development: We encourage you to Be Curious, offering training and development that fosters continuous learning.
  • Competitive total rewards: We Own It by recognizing and rewarding the work that moves our community forward.
  • Flexibility & work life balance: Our commitment to Service with Care includes supporting your wellbeing at work and at home.

Ready to make an impact?
