Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
As an Intern, Welding Engineering, you will be responsible for supporting the development of welding procedures, assisting the technical department and production team, and conducting failure and root cause analysis on welding-related issues. This internship will provide exposure to weld and material testing procedures in a one-of-a-kind metallurgical testing lab, working alongside a team of professional engineers on one of the largest shipbuilding programs of our time. During this time, you will report to the Manager, Welding Engineering.
Note : Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.
What you’ll do
- Assist in development of Welding Procedure Specifications
- Support testing procedures in the Metallurgical Laboratory
- Support Welding Quality Management System (WQMS) initiatives
- Assist in reviewing and organizing the Welding Procedure database
- Work on special projects as assigned by the Welding Engineering and Quality Manager and / or Senior Manager

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00 / hour.
Start Date of Internship : Monday, May 4th, 2026.
End Date of Internship : Friday, August 28th, 2026 (4-Months)
