Job description

Climate Forest is a Germany-based organization with international operations. We have a steadfast commitment to forest conservation, sustainable forest management and exact carbon storage monitoring and reporting. With dedication to nature-based solutions in addressing the challenges of climate crisis and biodiversity loss, we provide companies with suitable Climate Protection Initiatives and Biodiversity Projects. Currently we operate on an area of 45,000 hectares of forest worldwide.

In order to be prepared for the further challenges of our international growth, we are looking for competent reinforcement.

We are looking for a Carbon Project Developer Canada (m / w / d) in full-time at the earliest possible date.

Position overview

As a Carbon Project Developer Canada, you will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle of our Canada-based forestry carbon initiatives, from project design to verification and registration. You will work closely with landowners, forestry managers, carbon certifiers, and stakeholders to implement projects that align with carbon standards applicable in Canada and beyond. This is a dynamic role that requires a combination of technical expertise in forestry, carbon accounting, and project management.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead the development of carbon forestry projects, including feasibility assessments, project design, and implementation plans.
  • Collaborate with landowners and forestry experts to implement sustainable forest management plans.
  • Conduct carbon stock assessments, baseline studies, and monitoring of carbon sequestration potential.
  • Oversee the carbon certification process under standards like ACR, Verra, or similar.
  • Prepare project documentation, including Project Design Documents (PDDs) and Monitoring Reports.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, including certifying agencies.
  • Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and market developments in the carbon markets and forestry sectors.
  • Contribute to the co-development of standards in collaboration with other market stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects comply with legal and environmental regulations.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities and partnerships.
  • Develop cost estimates, budgets, and financial projections for projects.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in carbon project development, preferably in the forestry sector.
  • Strong knowledge of carbon markets, carbon accounting, and carbon standards.
  • Familiarity with forest management practices, afforestation, reforestation, and forest conservation.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for land-use mapping and carbon monitoring.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in any other language is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel across North America as needed.
  • Our offer

  • A permanent position in a friendly, creative and professional working environment
  • A diverse, international and agile team
  • The opportunity to work remote
  • A varied job with the opportunity to make your own decisions
  • Above-average remuneration
  • 30 paid vacation days
  • A modern, well-equipped workplace
  • Trust-based working hours with flexible working hours
  • Induction and participation in further training
  • We look forward to receiving your detailed application documents, including a cover letter, on which you should send exclusively by e-mail to Claus.
