Consumer Protection BC is looking for a strategic and motivated Director of Finance & Administration to join our team! Day in the life :

After spending a few productive days working from home you step into the Victoria office ready to tackle the day (but first coffee and a snack). Your next task Preparing financial statements. With the monthend wrapped up its time to compile a detailed report for the Finance & Audit Committee which is due in a week. This involves drafting statements a management discussion and analysis (MD&A) and a concise summary presentation to share with the Leadership Team for review. Throughout the morning colleagues stop by to chat and a member of the operations team consults you about how financial statements submitted by a travel agent might impact their licence renewal application. Helping crossdepartmental teams navigate regulatory nuances is a responsibility you take pride in.

A refreshing lunch break at Swan Lake leaves you energized for the afternoons budgeting meetings with department leads. Though its only midyear the groundwork for the next threeyear budget cycle begins now. Budgeting for you isnt just about plugging numbers into spreadsheetsits about strategic thinking and fostering collaboration to shape the organizations future. While some of your work is cyclical and operational you thrive on opportunities to enhance administrative processes and contribute strategically.

By days end you feel a sense of accomplishment knowing you play a crucial role in advancing Consumer Protection BCs mission alongside a dedicated and likeminded team.

What you will be doing :

  • Acting as the lead financial position within the organization responsible for planning implementing managing and controlling all financial and administrative related activities.
  • Developing annual budgets implementing financial policies and procedures preparing financial statements coordinating the annual audit and completing payroll functions among other things!
  • Providing indepth financial and risk analysis and forecasting revenue streams to enhance operational effectiveness and achieve business goals.
  • We are looking for people who have :

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA with CPABC).
  • Comprehensive experience with nonprofit organizations budgetary analysis financial information systems and forecasting.

  • Approximately 45 employees manage operational (compliance enforcement licensing consumer inquiries) and administrative (data analysis IT and interest holder relations) duties towards furthering our mandate.
  • Our latest audited financial statements (as of December 31 2023) reported $7.46 million in revenue and $11.09 million in total assets.
