Employment Opportunity Title: Assistant Utility System Technician Department: Public Works Status: Full-time, 40 hour/week Salary: $69,846.40 Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 Union Status: Unionized Housing: No Staff housing available Closing Date: Open until filled.

Under the direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman the incumbent is responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of water meters.

They will also assist in the hands-on operation, repair and maintenance of the water and sewage system.

The incumbent will provide assistance in cleaning and maintenance of the plants, work areas, and equipment.

The incumbent must be willing to work in harsh outdoor weather conditions.

This position involves working in some confined spaces with obnoxious odors caused by waste.

The candidate must also be willing to participate in training and other safety related courses within the first 6 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications: • Must have completed a grade 10 level of education • Valid class 5 Nunavut Driver’s License • Must be proficient working with numerical data and have efficient, practical computer knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications: • The candidate must be punctual, reliable, and able to work independently.

• • Additional training and certifications in a related field is an asset • Related experience within a Municipal setting is an asset • Experience working in piped water/sewage is an asset • The ability to communicate in both Inuktitut and English is an asset • The ability to be scheduled at the last minute • Some overtime is necessary Assets include the ability to speak and write in Inuktitut.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.
