POSITION OVERVIEW :
At The Globe and Mail, we are constantly evolving how we deliver our journalism in ways that best serve our audience and push the bounds of mobile storytelling, with an eye to making our digital platforms a more dynamic and visually rich experience while helping to ease news fatigue brought on by the chaotic cycle of events we find ourselves in.
To help us fulfill our ambitions, we are hiring nine new digital content editors. We are looking for curious editors with solid news judgement to run our homepages, edit and publish stories, write mobile alerts, curate newsletters, and grow their aspirations alongside ours.
Ideal candidates will have a knack for identifying the nuggets that make great headlines, be adaptable and collaborative, and have an interest in turning audience metrics into actionable insights. You will work with editors and reporters from across the newsroom in creating a rich digital experience on our app and mobile platforms. Your decisions in this role will be guided by experience and instinct, as well as a deep familiarity with the stories and topics that resonate with Globe subscribers.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ensuring we are fast and best on breaking news stories and the stories that matter most to subscribers
- Choosing stories and visuals that will appear at the top of our app and website homepages
- Editing and publishing a range of staff and wire stories, from news and business stories to longform features
- Writing SEO-friendly, engaging headlines, decks, captions and other display copy
- Publishing stories with a visual eye for the best photos, graphics and videos to showcase our journalism
- Writing mobile push alerts and curating newsletters
- Using audience analytics to spot opportunities and inform decisions
- Suggesting stories we should be covering
- Looking for ways to experiment with how and when we reach audiences
QUALIFICATIONS :
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where every day is an opportunity to learn or try something new, this role is for you.
The Globe offers a hybrid work environment. This position requires working variable shifts, including early mornings, nights or weekends. It will be based in our Toronto office and you will be required to come into the office a minimum of two days a week.
APPLICATION : Please include your resume and a cover letter that shows your storytelling skills.
The Globe’s mission is to deliver essential content – news, information, analysis and insights – for aspiring individuals and strong communities. The Globe is committed to providing a respectful and inclusive workplace that upholds our values of integrity, collaboration, innovation and accountability.
As Canada’s most respected media brand, The Globe is dedicated to making a difference in Canada and you can make a difference by working with us.
