Building the commercial brokerage of the future. Summit is a boutique commercial insurance firm headquartered in Kelowna and serving businesses across Canada. We are a venture-backed, tech-enabled commercial insurance brokerage redefining what it means to be a modern insurance partner. With strong values— Sustainability, Ownership, Transparency, and Impact —we move fast, support one another, and raise the bar for industry standards.
Summit is a team of empowered and high-performing individuals who live our core values every day. Being a part of Summit offers a chance for the right applicant to make a name for themselves, and help build Summit as a leader in the Canadian Commercial Insurance market.
About the role
The Senior Manager, Finance is an experienced, hands-on role designed for an individual who has seen how "great" looks at scale, and you’re excited to implement those best practices in a more nimble, high-impact environment. As the Senior Finance Manager, you’ll run Summit’s finance engine independently and calmly as we look to double our business growth in 2026, and beyond.
You will own Summit’s day-to-day finance and accounting operations while supporting leadership with accurate reporting, analysis, and insight. This is a foundational, structural, and permanent hire intended to strengthen Summit for the long term as we scale.
While you’ll provide critical continuity during a maternity leave, you’ll be the person the leadership team relies on to understand our business and drive our strategy forward. Once you've mastered the finance engine, you’ll become the operational backbone of the department, empowering the Head of Finance to focus on high-level strategy while you own the core execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting & Month-End Close : Own the monthly close process end-to-end, including reconciling all balance sheet accounts and validating P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Cash & Trust Management : Manage accounts payable, oversee trust-to-operating account transfers, and monitor cash balances, burn rate, and runway.
- Payroll & People : Own payroll operations in Rippling, support employee benefits and PTO, and handle year-end deliverables like T4s and remittances.
- Tax & Regulatory Reporting : Prepare and remit GST and provincial RST filings, ensure tax account reconciliation, and manage RIBO and other regulatory reporting.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis : Produce monthly leadership and investor reporting, maintain forecasts and scenario models, and analyze revenue and headcount efficiency.
- Audit & Year-End : Lead the year-end close and audit preparation, liaising directly with external auditors to finalize financials.
- Team Support & Continuity : Support and manage the Finance Coordinator while acting as the senior finance lead during the Head of Finance's maternity leave.
