Mississauga’s transit system (MiWay) is one of the busiest in the province. Transit provides a safe and reliable transportation service to the community and meets the economic, social, and environmental needs of Mississauga’s residents, businesses and visitors. MiWay is Ontario’s third-largest municipal transit service and provides connectivity for a rapidly growing city to destinations throughout Mississauga and to neighbouring transit systems and municipalities. The City has set aggressive targets to increase ridership and modernize the system, to make taking transit easier, more comfortable and more convenient for all.
Reporting to the Commissioner, Transportation & Works, the Director, Transit provides overall strategic and operational leadership to the Transit Division. The Director is accountable for a $121M annual operating budget, 1665 employees, a bus fleet of 499 units and a $115M revenue target. The Director integrates higher order transit and connections with other GTHA systems within the wider transit network and ensures commitments are met in the MiWay Customer Charter with respect to safety, reliability, and on-time performance.
The ideal candidate will come with a minimum of 10 years progressively responsible senior level transit operations experience with experience related to the key responsibilities of the position, as well as proficiency in leading multi-disciplinary teams and working effectively in a multistakeholder environment. Strong strategic planning, operational leadership, and management skills, as well as working knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation. Demonstrated competencies in effectively implementing significant projects with multiple interests and funding sources in a consultative and collaborative manner with a focus on deliverables will be key to success in this leadership role.
