The Opportunity

As the Recreation Assistant, you will conduct therapeutic and recreational activities to meet the diverse needs of residents, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you work collaboratively to implement a person-centered Wellness Model of Care that promotes health, wellness, and a safe, empowering environment for residents.
About The Role
As a Recreation Assistant, you play a key role in creating a vibrant, supportive environment where residents thrive. Guided by the values of Baptist Housing and servant leadership, you prioritize the well-being of others while fostering positive, collaborative relationships with residents, families, and team members.
In this full-time role, your schedule will be Sunday from 11 : 30 AM to 7 : 30 PM and Monday to Thursday from 8 : 30 AM to 4 : 30 PM. You’ll help plan and implement engaging recreational programs that promote health, wellness, and independence, while also ensuring a safe, clean environment. You’ll assist with mealtimes, resident care, and provide direction to volunteers. By creatively supporting residents’ physical, mental, and emotional needs, you contribute to their autonomy, dignity, and quality of life.
You will also document residents' progress, support health and safety by following infection control procedures, and continue your professional development. Through your dedication, you help cultivate an empowering community for everyone involved.
Requirements
Grade 12 completion
Recreation Therapy Aide certificate or diploma (minimum 12-month program)
Current Food Safe Certificate
Current First Aid Certificate
At least 1 year of experience in implementing recreation programs in residential care
A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered, such as a Registered Care Aide certificate with an additional activity aide certificate.
Class 4 License is an asset

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package, featuring an hourly salary of $28.70. Your comprehensive benefits include employer-paid extended health and dental coverage, along with a generous four weeks of vacation. Additionally, we provide RRSP matching contributions and support for your ongoing professional development.
