Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Addiction Services, the Addiction and Mental Health Therapist (Therapist) will offer counselling and psychotherapy to clients experiencing addiction/ concurrent mental health disorders/complex needs and their family/loved ones, utilizing a variety of clinical methodologies. The Therapist will also conduct consultations with carers and other professionals, including consulting psychiatrists. The Therapist is responsible for managing the clients’ file and developing collaborative care plans along with performing some intake duties, ongoing assessments, psychotherapy, and treatment referral. The Therapist will work closely with the CWMS, MHCT and the Emergency Department in offering care collaboration and quick access to services. The Therapist delivers a range of specialized addiction and mental health one-on-one and group therapy services, and participates in other interventions and requirements of the organization. As well, the Addiction and Mental Health Therapist may be required to do presentations inside and outside the organization.
Requirements of the job
• Four (4) year university degree in social sciences
• Registered with a relevant Ontario College whose members may practice psychotherapy
• Minimum three (3) years working experience delivering a range of psychotherapy interventions with adults and families experiencing addiction and mental health concerns.
• Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and CPR
• In-depth knowledge of the various treatment modalities specific to mental health and to addiction treatment such as: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution – Focused Counselling, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and trauma and grief counselling.
• Ability to be organized and autonomous, and have good team-work capabilities
• Understanding of the etiological factors that contribute to addictions and mental health
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Good interviewing and group facilitation skills
• Therapeutic group facilitation skills
• Good computer skills
• Valid driver’s licence and access to own vehicle (position will cover the Glengarry area as well as Cornwall)
• Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
• Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
• Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English, oral in French – and testing completed)

• Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy
• Excellent presentation skills and ability to deliver power point educational presentations in the community
