Job description

Description

This position is located in our Head Office location in Melville, Saskatchewan. Consideration may be given to hybrid work arrangements within Saskatchewan. If approved for hybrid work, you will be required to work in the office at least three days per week. This includes attending onsite divisional meetings, training sessions, employee engagement and team collaboration activities, as well as corporate meetings and events.

What you'll do :

  • Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, this position is responsible for the leadership, direction and management of the Accounting Unit to ensure effective coordination and financial services to both internal and external customers within generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Provide appropriate direction, policies and recommendations to VP, Finance & Compliance to ensure the corporation’s fiscal responsibilities are met.
  • Lead the strategic planning of the Accounting Unit to ensure goals and objectives align with the Finance Division plan and the overall corporate plan.
  • Responsible for overseeing the collection function and legal activities of the corporation with respect to collections, legal action, contracts and contact with RCMP if required.
  • Manage the human resources for the Accounting Unit to ensure goals and objectives of the unit are met.
  • Develop and provide direction to ensure policies and procedures are consistently administered, aligned with organizational direction and in compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Co-ordinate audits with internal and external auditors as well as Provincial and Federal auditors.
  • Lead the preparation of quarterly financial statements and written reports and present to Executive and Board of Directors.
  • Coordinate and manage projects and develop and implement policy for the Accounting Unit.
  • Responsible for maintaining a culture of compliance, ethics and integrity.
  • Be a leader in change management throughout the organization.
  • Actively engage and participate as a member of SCIC’s Executive Management team.

Qualifications :

  • To be successful in this position you will need a degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration supplemented with a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation and seven to ten years in progressively responsible accounting leadership roles.
  • Experience displaying knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting for Public Sector or Private Sector entities.
  • Proven ability to lead employees and to establish and maintain good working relations with employees, co-workers, management, Board of Directors and external customers.
  • Experience with a computerized accounting system and hands-on knowledge of computer software applications.
  • Requires knowledge in financial reporting and accountability.
  • Understanding of collection procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge in strategic planning.
  • A criminal record check is required.
  • Should the successful candidate participate in the Crop Insurance or AgriStability Programs, their account must be in good standing.
