Overview
This role focuses on hands-on assembly and integration of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems for unmanned surface vessels and their associated ground control stations. The technician will build, test, troubleshoot, and refine complex subsystems that directly support applications in marine incident response, defense, conservation, and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Build structural and mechanical components of vessels using aluminum, composites, and marine-grade hardware.
- Fit and align propulsion systems, enclosures, panels, and mechanical linkages.
- Install cable routing channels, grommets, strain relief, and protective conduits.
- Fabricate and modify vessel components as required.
- Mechanically assemble or modify field control stations.
- Install wiring harnesses, power distribution systems, connectors, switches, sensors, and embedded electronics.
- Crimp, solder, heat-shrink, modify and assemble harness assemblies and terminate connectors.
- Assemble and integrate 12–48 VDC systems, battery packs, converters, and safety interlocks.
- Follow wiring diagrams, PCB layouts, and system schematics.
- Electrically assemble or modify field control stations.
- Conduct subsystem and full-system bring-up for propulsion, communications, navigation, and onboard computing.
- Perform electrical verification checks and load testing on power systems.
- Support functional testing such as video streaming, sensor calibration, and network connectivity.
- Document test results and support root-cause analysis during troubleshooting.
- Review and contribute to assembly instructions.
- Maintain build records, part traceability, and checklists.
- Identify manufacturability issues and propose improvements.
- Follow assembly processes and provide feedback for continuous refinement.
- Support inventory management and kitting of mechanical / electrical components.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in vessels and ground control stations.
- Perform component replacements, rework, and field-return evaluations.
- Conduct post-repair functional checks and validation tests.
- Assist with maintenance planning and service documentation.
- Provide occasional support for field deployments or customer demonstrations.
