Summary
Reporting to the Operations Leader, this position performs complex diagnostic ophthalmic procedures and assessments in imaging, visual field and other ophthalmic tests. Provides tests and treatment information for interpretation by medical staff and performs related duties.
Qualifications / Skills and Education
Education
Graduation from a recognized program in ophthalmic technology plus two (2) years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reviews requisitions, reviews and documents patient's history, and verifies appropriateness of visual field tests and photographs to be taken in accordance with physician's diagnosis, instruction and / or established procedures. Identifies concerns to the physician regarding requisition discrepancies, patient's condition, or other observations; implements requisition changes as directed.
Performs tests and procedures such as Goldmann field tests, automated perimetry, tonometry, tests for glaucoma, intraocular pressure monitoring, ocular motility assessments, pachymetry and macular function studies; analyzes, records, and reports relevant data for interpretation by physician.
Performs complex ophthalmic tests and imaging procedures such as fluorescein angiograms and optical coherence tomography (OCT); analyzes, records, and reports relevant data for interpretation by physician.
Evaluates, identifies and selects images to obtain the appropriate standards for diagnostic purposes. Processes and stores images into computerized database and / or permanent patient record.
Receives patients arriving in the area, records relevant patient information, explains procedures to patients for a variety of diagnostic ophthalmic tests and assessment procedures and answers related question. Schedules patients for diagnostic and clinical treatments as required.
Administers eye drops as required, monitors pupil dilation and patient status; reports adverse reactions to designated nurse or physician.
Demonstrates ophthalmic testing procedures and operation of related equipment as required.
Monitors equipment performance, identifies malfunctions, takes corrective action and / or refers for repairs as appropriate. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies in accordance with established procedures.
Maintains statistical records and patient files in accordance with the established policies and procedures for the area.
Communicates issues, unusual occurrences or equipment malfunctions, to Manager (or designate) and / or physicians as appropriate.
Participates in the orientation and education of new and casual staff as required.
Provides input to the Operations Leader or designate for the development, implementation and review of Continuous Quality Improvement Program initiatives, policies procedures and standards utilized in the work place.
Performs other related duties as directed.
