Job description

Join the team as Twilio’s next Software Engineer, Technical Content on the Developer Network.

Who we are & why we’re hiring

At Twilio, we’re shaping the future of communications, all from the comfort of our homes. We deliver innovative solutions to hundreds of thousands of businesses and empower millions of developers worldwide to craft personalized customer experiences.

Our dedication to remote-first work and strong culture of connection and global inclusion means that no matter your location, you’re part of a vibrant, diverse team making a global impact each day. As we continue to revolutionize how the world interacts, we’re acquiring new skills and experiences that make work feel truly rewarding. Your career at Twilio is in your hands.

About the job

This position is needed at Twilio to contribute to the technical education of every developer who visits the Twilio Blog, Twilio CodeExchange, or Twilio’s other developer-focused web properties.

The goal of this position is to strengthen and expand coverage of existing and emerging technologies and their intersection with Twilio products on the Twilio Blog and on Twilio CodeExchange using the Python programming language. Software Engineers of Technical Content must demonstrate and explain complicated programming topics in ways blog readers and CodeExchange users can easily understand. They ensure that developers using the Twilio platform are heroes of their own companies by inspiring and enabling them to successfully use Twilio’s products.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll :

  • 60%) Publish one to three pieces of high quality, relevant, and engaging technical content on Twilio’s developer-focused web properties–the Twilio Blog and Twilio CodeExchange–per month by :

Writing original, long form, code-based technical tutorials that meet strategic directives

  • Enabling Python community developers to write their own tutorials
  • Coding samples for common Twilio products and use cases in Python
  • Keeping meticulous records of in-progress and published content and contributors in the team’s Airtable base
  • 25%) Maintain, update, or sunset existing Python-based technical content on the Twilio Blog and Twilio CodeExchange on a weekly cadence
  • 15%) Serve as the resident expert and content owner for the Python programming language by :
  • Staying up-to-date on all language best practices and standards and ensuring all content in your language area adheres to them

  • Researching and learning new technologies, frameworks, and tools within your language area
  • Providing language-related guidance to other members of the Developer Network at large
  • Writing tutorials explaining new language features, advancements, and evolutions
  • Communicating with and overseeing the work of community developers writing for the Twilio blog in your language area
  • Qualifications

    Required :

  • 3+ years experience in Python development
  • 2+ years writing experience, regardless of form (i.e. technical documentation, tutorials, blogs, creative endeavors, etc.)
  • Can empathize with the developer that’s learning, including the joy of "It worked!" and the frustration of "Why is my code doing that?"
  • Loves to write clean code and uses it to clearly and concisely tell a great narrative to readers.
  • Has the self-motivation to work proactively rather than responding reactively to inbound tasks and is comfortable working in a remote environment across timezones
  • Previous experience in a Developer Relations role or empowering others in the developer community through meetups, conference talks, mentoring, etc.
  • Basic experience with or exposure to at least one other programming language
  • An interest in creating other types of developer content such as video content
  • Location

This role will be remote and located in British Columbia, Ontario or Alberta, Canada.

    Travel

We prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other. For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings.

    What We Offer

There are many benefits to working at Twilio, including, in addition to competitive pay, things like generous time-off, ample parental and wellness leave, healthcare, a retirement savings program, and much more. Offerings vary by location.

    Twilio thinks big. Do you?

We like to solve problems, take initiative, pitch in when needed, and are always up for trying new things. That's why we seek out colleagues who embody our values — something we call Twilio Magic. Additionally, we empower employees to build positive change in their communities by supporting their volunteering and donation efforts.

So, if you're ready to unleash your full potential, do your best work, and be the best version of yourself, apply now!
