This summer student opportunity is available within the Good Shepherd- Barrett Centre
About the Role :
The Barrett Centre provides crisis intervention supports to all those aged 16+ of any gender identity. The program provides services including 16 short-term respite beds, in-person and telephone support, information and referral; crisis assessment, counseling and support; symptom stabilization for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. All services are supported by a diverse team of staff including Peer Support, Harm Reduction, and various community partners in addition to the Mental Health Crisis Workers. Barrett Centre is committed to the promotion of Anti-Racism / Anti-Oppression and Harm Reduction based practices in all the services provided.
How You Will Make an Impact :
- Conduct risk and suicide assessments in a compassionate, hospitable, and non-judgmental manner
- Provide immediate crisis intervention and utilize de-escalation strategies
- Offer crisis counseling and one-on-one emotional support
- Facilitate appropriate linkages to services and make referrals to community resources
- Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to needed supports
- Collaborate and coordinate care with other service providers
- Deliver all services via the 24-hour Crisis Phone Line

This temporary full-time position is funded by Service Canada for youth between the ages of 15 to 30 years of age.
International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
