Campus : St. George (Downtown Toronto)

Description :

The Department of Physiology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in human physiology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025 .

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Physiology or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths ( https : / / www.physiology.utoronto.ca / ). Candidates must have teaching expertise in a degree-granting program at the undergraduate program level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, course coordination, and development of online material / lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

In accordance with a key domain of the Temerty Medicine strategic plan, Excellence Through Equity, the Department of Physiology holds the value that research excellence is dependent upon the perspectives and contributions of people from all races, nationalities, religious backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, and ages. As such, the Department of Physiology is committed to diversifying our already vibrant faculty and continuing to actively cultivate an inclusive welcoming culture. We especially welcome candidates who self-identify as Indigenous or those who have lived experience in Black or other racialized (persons of colour) communities. Candidates are therefore asked to also include a statement discussing past, current and / or planned contributions to equity and diversity (see below for more details).

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Toronto provides the opportunity to teach, engage in teaching-related scholarly activities and live in one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. The Department of Physiology ( https : / / www.physiology.utoronto.ca / ) holds a leadership position research and education in Canada and internationally. For over 125 years, the Department has been at the forefront of innovation and the advancement of scientific discovery and medicine. We have made notable contributions to research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular science, reproduction and human development, and endocrinology. Our faculty provide a world-class education to students at the undergraduate and post graduate levels.

All qualified candidates are invited to apply online by clicking the link below. Applicants must submit the following : (1) a cover letter; (2) a current curriculum vitae; (3) a complete teaching dossier (50 pages maximum, including appendices) to include a teaching philosophy with a strong teaching statement, statement of specific areas of physiological expertise / interest, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations; and (4) an equity and diversity statement discussing past, current and / or planned contributions, which might cover topics such as (but not limited to) research or teaching that incorporates a focus on underrepresented communities, the development of inclusive pedagogies, and mentoring of students from underrepresented groups.

Applicants must also provide the name and contact information of three references. The University of Toronto’s recruiting tool will automatically solicit and collect letters of reference from each referee the day after an application is submitted. Applicants remain responsible for ensuring that references submit recent letters (on letterhead, dated, and signed) by the closing date. At least one reference letter must primarily address the candidate’s teaching. More details on the automatic reference letter collection, including timelines, are available in the candidate FAQ .

Submission guidelines can be found at http : / / uoft.me / how-to-apply . Your CV and cover letter should be uploaded into the dedicated fields. Please combine additional application materials into one or two files in PDF / MS Word format.

If you have any questions about this position, please contact Scott Heximer at [email protected] .

All application materials, including recent reference letters, must be received by June 16, 2025.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
