Job description

Your expertise shapes our business

At the CWB Group, we find fulfillment and inspiration knowing that we are performing meaningful and purposeful work. Every day is a new adventure with opportunities to learn from industry leaders and, most importantly, from each other. When you join the CWB Group, you become part of a diverse and inclusive, tight-knit team passionate about making a global impact. The CWB Foundation, founded in 2014, is a national not-for-profit charitable organization affiliated with the CWB Group. The Foundation builds partnerships between industry, education, and government that enable Canadians to build great careers in the welding industry, through encouraging awareness, training, and the promotion of best practices through a quality educational experience, impartial advocacy, and greater accessibility for all those interested in exploring future opportunities in skilled trades and a welding-related career.

Our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

The CWB Group believes that diversity and inclusion among our employees is critical to our success, and we seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented employees from a diverse candidate pool.

Work with us and achieve your career goals

For almost 75 years, our employees have been the backbone of our business, driving our success and extraordinary reputation. We challenge our employees to take charge of their careers and provide growth opportunities, tools and resources to reach their goals.

What to expect :

The Summer Student will be working in the capacity of Program Outreach Officer with the CWB Foundation and support the Program Development team for all related program needs, including but not limited to CWB Foundation programs. Projects will include supporting the development and implementation of programs that increase the awareness and education of welding to encourage more individuals to explore careers in welding and other skilled trades. Programs focus on reducing barriers to participation to all, under-represented groups such as women, Indigenous people, racialized, persons with disabilities, LGTBQ+ communities, and others. This position will primarily work from your home office, with some travel to events and conferences at host organizations. This position may require employees to work evenings and / or weekends to support community engagement and events as required. As the Foundation’s programs deal with youth, successful applicants will be asked to complete a third-party background check, supplied by the Foundation, during the interview process.

This includes :

Program Planning and Development Support

  • Liaise with other CWBF staff to support the planning of programs.
  • Assist with program marketing and promotion activities.
  • Research events and activities in defined regions to identify possible opportunities to deliver CWBF programs and make recommendations to the Manager of Program Development.
  • Entry of program data in a variety of databases using CRM and Microsoft Office suite. Ensure that all data is up to date and accurate for each program.
  • Undertake additional projects intended to enhance program delivery and development.
  • Coordinate activities to support the delivery of camps, workshops and other educational programs.
  • Collaborate with the Community Relations Coordinator to transition program assets to the Marketing Communications team after program delivery, including photos and contacts.
  • Support the host organization and CWBF staff during program delivery.

Program Evaluation and Reporting Administration

  • Compile program statistics based upon program evaluations and reports.
  • Other reporting as required.
  • In this position, you will report to the Manager of Program Development. You will work out of your home office. The CWB group has adopted a remote-first working model, where employees work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. We are embracing radical flexibility, where employees are encouraged to work on a schedule that works best for them, their team, and their clients.

What you bring to the table :

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Secondary education, currently enrolled in full-time post-secondary education.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to compile data, statistics and other information to support research and grant writing activities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with not-for-profits, customer service, business administration to include not-for- profit, program delivery, accounting, advancement services, digital and database management.
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Office / Teams, including Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy of work.
  • Current student with Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or valid student visa.
  • Ability to work evenings and / or weekends.
  • These positions are partially funded by the Canada Summer Jobs grant and eligibility is as per requirements of this grant. Due to federal funding requirements for this position, eligible applicants must :

  • Be 15 - 30 years of age on their first day of work.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, have permanent resident status, or be protected under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Be present in Canada while working.
  • Hold a valid Social Insurance Number, and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • One year of customer service experience, plus project management experience or knowledge.
  • Bilingualism in English and French.
  • Project management experience or related courses.
  • Experience in database management systems.
  • Knowledge of skilled trades, including apprenticeship.
  • Accommodation :
