Job description

Manager, Planning and Operations

Date Posted : 06 / 06 / 2025

Req ID : 43355

Faculty / Division : Temerty Faculty of Medicine

Department : Office of the Dean

Campus : St. George (Downtown Toronto)

Description : About Us

The Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is at the centre of one of North America’s largest biomedical research, education and clinical care networks. With nine fully affiliated research-intensive hospitals — and dozens of community and clinical care sites — Temerty Medicine offers unparalleled opportunities in Canada’s most dynamic city for our more than 9,000 faculty and staff and 7,000 learners at all levels.

Annually, Temerty Medicine contributes almost one-third of the family physicians who train and enter practice in Ontario, and over half of the specialist physicians. We also train hundreds of rehabilitation health professionals, physician assistants and medical radiation technologists, and over 3,000 graduate life-sciences learners — many of whom find work in postsecondary education and industry. Globally, we have over 69,000 alumni.

Your Opportunity

As Manager, Planning and Operations, you will be entrusted as a key business partner to develop purposeful collaborations between the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and designated departments across Temerty Medicine. With a dual reporting relationship, you will primarily report to the Office of the CAO for administrative services planning and delivery and you will have a functional reporting relationship to the Chair(s) for academic and research program operations. You will provide functional and operational leadership to Department Chairs and the CAO regarding short- and long-term strategic planning, ensuring the optimization of operational efficiencies between different academic, research and administrative units. Your ability to embrace new challenges as they emerge, coupled with your exceptional financial management and people leadership skills, will enable you to evaluate processes, articulate vulnerabilities and identify cost effective approaches, recommend fiscal strategies to academic leadership, and deliver quality business solutions that will help us enhance our collective effectiveness and operational agility.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 5 years’ senior administrative experience, preferably in a University or healthcare environment
  • Strong financial acumen, including financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting experience
  • Experience developing high functioning teams, including a proven track record of success in leading and mentoring staff in a unionized environment
  • Experience in research administration, including reviewing and negotiating research-related agreements
  • Experience in a student recruitment and admissions environment
  • Familiarity with office renovation, capital projects and space management
  • Experience scoping and managing projects and leading successful change
  • Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Superior planning and project management skills with a focus on executing and competing tasks under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective, and the ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, learners, senior administrators and external stakeholders
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of the University of Toronto’s Administrative Management System (AMS) and a facility for working with project management tools and keep current with new and emerging technologies
  • Advanced consulting skills, with the ability to work across the organization to influence decisions for a positive outcome
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills with strong ability to exercise judgement, tact, discretion, and determination

Assets

  • Completion of a recognized professional accounting program (CMA, CGA, or CA)
  • Education program management experience in an academic environment, and knowledge of higher education curriculum and accreditation processes
  • Closing Date : 06 / 27 / 2025, 11 : 59PM ET
