Role and Facility Information
Penticton :
Flanked by tree-trimmed mountain slopes, dramatic clay cliffs, and Okanagan and Skaha Lake, Penticton is one of the larger cities in the BC interior. Its lush surroundings and ideal climate, with over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, combine to create a paradise. Indulge in wineries, golf courses, and famous sandy beaches in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing when the snow falls. Penticton is an innovative and adventurous waterfront city offering all the amenities of a larger urban centre while preserving its small-town charm and warmth.
Clinic Details — Penticton Regional Hospital :
The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 158-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and is responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to a surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people. PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic / Paramedical Services.
As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. PRH has excellent radiology availability with on-site Computed Tomography (CT) and part-time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology / transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.
In April 2019, PRH opened phase one of the David E. Kampe Tower (DKT), a new, state-of-the-art Patient Care Tower. DKT includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, 84 medical / surgical inpatient beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit, and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two is set to be completed in December 2021 and will involve the renovation of the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size.
The Penticton Regional Hospital is seeking a General Pathologist (AP / CP) to complete our 4.8 FTE pathology team. Our group performs approximately 10,000 (17,000 LFE) surgical pathology cases / year, 100 bone marrow biopsies / year, 500 cytopathology cases / year, and 50 autopsy cases / year, along with quality assurance activities and teaching of medical and laboratory students. Most services are covered under the provincial contract, but additional fee-for-service billings are possible for bone marrows and coroner autopsies. Our group holds very close ties to the local physicians and surgical community and is an integral part of the larger diagnostic team.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced general pathologist, with extra experience in dermatology, breast, or GI as an asset. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge strong working relationships with the hospital and laboratory staff are imperative.
