PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Enji Maawinjidiyaang Start Up Coordinator the Enji Maawinjidiyaang Akwe Go Worker is responsible for providing urban indigenous children ages 0-12 with a focus on 7-12; who are at risk the support, tools and healthy activities that build upon and foster their inherent ability to make healthy choices. This program has been designed based on a fundamental principle : to improve the quality of life through the delivery of culturally appropriate programming and community member-based services in the areas of advocacy, justice, social services and the educational system.
The Enji Maawinjidiyaang Akwe Go Worker will provide comprehensive activities and programming that include social supports, health and physical development, education, institutional interventions, and individual / family support.
This position supports in the initial development and set up of Enji maawinjidiyaang as well as promotion, coordination and delivery of workshops and community engagement.
The Enji Maawinjidiyaang Akwe Go Worker will assist Urban Indigenous families and community members in accessing Enji Maawinjidiyaang via membership enrolment and participation in group and individual services, workshops and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements :
- It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First
- Diploma or degree in Social Services and / or equivalent experience,
- Minimum of two (2) years direct services with children, parents, family groups,
- First Aid / CPR certified or open to training for certification,
- Ability to work flexible hours,
- Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and
- Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position, and
- Class G Drivers license and access to a vehicle.
