The Communication Centre is seeking energetic, organized, and diligent individuals to provide communication support to Sheriffs Branch as well as Ministry partners. Reporting to the Communications Supervisor, you will be responsible for monitoring and delivering timely, accurate and effective security and dispatch services to a variety of stakeholders and buildings associated with the Government of Alberta.
The Sheriff Operational Communications Centre (SOCC) operates on a 24-hour basis and is the main point of contact between the RCMP and the Public Security Divisional peace officers who are being deployed to a number of different calls for service including but not limited to : responding to alarms in government buildings, responding to safety concerns / alarms at the Premier's residence, calls in support of rural crime as part of RAPID Response, the transporting of prisoners and answering Report a Poacher calls. SOCC provides support directly to law enforcement agencies, provincial enforcement agencies, and integrated law enforcement agencies in Alberta. You will play a key role in the Ministry's commitment to promoting safe and secure communities throughout the province.
To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills as you interact with managers, professionals, staff and clients on a regular basis. As the ideal candidate, you will maintain a high standard of discretion through your regular exposure to confidential information. You also have the ability to remain focused, remain calm under pressure and be self-motivated.
Qualifications
A post-secondary one-year certificate in a related field is required.
Preference will be given to those with the following :
- Experience working in emergency dispatching and control room environments.
- Completion of an emergency communications post-secondary program.
- Knowledge of Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) / queries course, familiarity with alarms, warrant maintenance, Computer Aided Dispatch and Record Management systems, JOIN, ROADS, RELM, AFRRCS, or other dispatching tools / software.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of directly related experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
Notes
Hours of Work :
These positions will work 38.75 hours per week on a rotating schedule to provide 24 hour / 7 day a week coverage at the SOCC.
Location :
This position will be located at the Millbourne Professional Centre, Unit 154, 38 Avenue and Millwoods Road in Edmonton or at SOCC’s offsite location located on the Alberta Legislature Grounds. Please note there are fitness room amenities available to use at these locations.
Additional Information :
Final candidates for this position will be asked to provide proof of enhanced security screening clearance or that they are in the process of having this level of clearance completed.
Final candidates must also successfully complete all requirements of the SOCC Communication Officer induction training.
This competition may be used to fill future vacancies, across the Government of Alberta, at the same or lower classification level.
